My friend and I stayed here Aug 2009 for just a couple of days. We barely left the place. You don't really have to. You have breakfast, lunch (or afternoon tea) and dinner here. The food is fabulous especially the oysters and the sticky date pudding.!!! The atmosphere takes you back to old times and is very relaxing. You can bike, kayak, and wander around the park and grounds. We had such a wonderful time. We sat in the chairs in front of the lake and read one morning,. I finished a book while I was there. Would definitely try to come back once a year. This was my 2nd time visiting.

We thoroughly enoyed our stay at Dalvay. Our wishes were granted from the delivery of a drink out to the front lawn or the scrumptious meals served in the diningroom. Who needs a fitness centre when all you have to is take a biking trip along the many trails or paddle a canoe on Dalvay Lake? The beach is a short walk away for an evening stroll or to sunbathe. I would have to say the only drawback was the lack of air conditioning, but, saying that, there was a ceiling fan and a table fan for our convenience. I would have no hesitation in recommending Dalvay to our friends for their PEI vacation. We had a truly memorable time and hope to return one day.

We stayed at Dalvay by the Sea with a large family group, ages ranging from 87 years to 2 years old. Having never been to PEI before, we chose the site based on their location, proximity to the beach and ease of services (bike rentals etc), as well as having dining as part of the package. We had a great time- once we figured out how to get the toddler through the 2 hour dinners (the staff was great at getting his dinner out quickly); we revelled in the wonderful mussels, lobster and prime steak that was available every night. We found that if something was amiss with service, the situation was rectified quickly. The front desk could not be more accomodating, and the overall ambience was both formal and relaxed i.e. you could go to dinner rather causually dressed and feel comfortable. Or you could chose to be more resort-dressy, and feel good about being part of a real "grande dame" hotel experience. Dalvay is not cheap, but was a wonderful "first time" experience of PEI.

We were awed as we drove up to Dalvay-by-the-Sea. It is a beautiful mansion, with an equally beautiful setting. The little house we stayed in was very nice, with a great view of the bay. But then the disappointments began. As we were eating our dinner we watched as the high school students who were the servers re-set all the other tables for the next meal. It was difficult to get any of them to notice that we needed something, or to correct mistakes that were made with our orders, and there were quite a few mistakes with our orders. In addition, it was a very long dinner service -- much time between courses. The second evening we ordered lobster. When it came it was room temperature. When we complained about that we were told that the chef liked to cook the lobster ahead of time and serve them "cold". They weren't cold, they weren't hot -- they were room temperature and who knows how long that had been sitting. I have never heard of cooking lobsters ahead of time. (At a local "lobster dinner" we got nice hot lobsters that tasted much better). After dinner we had to walk back to our little house in the dark. There were no lights along the driveway or walkways, and no offer of a flashlight or accompaniment. I thought that we would have a fabulous stay at the Dalvay considering what we were paying -- it is a very expensive place -- but for all of us (3) it was not worth what we paid. It is a throwback to a different time without the appropriate "old-fashioned" service commitment. I would not recommend this hotel for anyone.

This is our fourth trip to Dalvay by the Sea. We love the fact that there are no phones or televisions (although a phone/computer booth has been added to the "office" area). The setting is perfect. Ask for a room with a view of the lake and the gulf. The restaurant is consistently good and the staff is very accommodating. You can enjoy tennis, biking and relaxing on the beach! The only drawback is, on the occasional hot muggy day, there is no air conditioning (fans are provided). Don't forget to try the sticky date pudding for dessert!
