We are travelling around the East Coast and are trying to be economical with out lodgings. This location fit the bill. Not the Ritz but certainly comfortable and clean. The staff at this location were very personable and helpful. Pool worked well for the kids and the breakfast was ample. Close proximity to Charlottetown worked well also.

We had stayed here years ago...We were very impressed with the new renovations. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We had supper in the lounge...good food. We had a very comfortable sleep and a terrific hot buffet breakfast. The price was competitive, as we had called around. Cornwall was a nice area...It was very nice to be out of the city!

We do lots of travelling and are not afraid to try conservative lodging for the general traveler on a budget. We have been lucky on occasion to find decent accomodation for the price charged but this place is really terrible for the price. Far over priced.... the hotel needs a complete overhaul and looks like some dingy hotel from the 1950'w with the tacky wallpaper in the rooms and cheap, cheap furnishings. First of all, the hotel rooms are on the second floor and there are not any elevators. I thought it was the law to provide wheelchair access for patrons. We are healthy and can walk stairs but for someone who has accessibility issues, this place is completely inaccessible. The fridge in the room pulses noise and is a bit disconcerting, the hall carpets are so dated and ooze dirtiness. Our bathroom door won't close properly - the cheap wooden doors that are made of plywood. Now, this place is asking $115.00 a night for a queen room (advertised as the Executive Suite) which is worth only $55 - $65. It's only saving grace is that a buffet breakfast is included. This place is NOT in Charlottetown, it's in Cornwall - a 10 minute drive over bridges to downtown Charlottetown so don't been fooled by it's advertising - that's very misleading. All in all, a very disappointing place - we will NEVER, repeat NEVER stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms elsewhere are recommended.

We first stayed here 2 years ago, with our dogs. It worked and we had a pleasant stay.
We just arrived home after visiting PEI with family and looking back there are too many things to mention that were deplorable this trip. The hotel smells, there are different horrible smells depending on what area of the hotel you are in. It goes from musty to stinky with a bad perfumed deodorizer trying to cover it up, to chlorine towels outside the pub downstairs- DON'T GO THERE BY THE WAY. It is old and dated, and dirty, and ugly and noisy and gross.
We ordered from the restaurant Henry's the first night we were there and the chowder was as I remembered it 2 years ago- the best I had ever tasted, but rest of the meal was atrocious. The steak was RAW, and my husband enjoys his steak rare, so rest assured it was RAW, the vegetables were greasy, and we couldn't have a baked patatoe with our meals (IN PEI, CAN YOU IMAGINE????), the scallops were chewy and greasy and the salmon was overlooked and again accompanied by grey mashed potatoes and greasy overlooked peppers. For $125, it was unacceptable. The waitress Sheila was our saving grace in dealing with a comp, as the woman at the front desk was useless and slow. The man in the morning for check out however was fabulous.
NEVER GO HERE, there are so many other nice places in PEI.

I would like to thank you for your comments. The Howard Johnson Dutch Inn is known locally for their catering as excellent home style cooking. We are very surprised with your comments but it is a wake up call for us as we may be getting complacent. Please be rest assured that our head chef is looking into this issue as we do not want something like this to ever happen again. I am pleased to hear that our seafood chowder does still have its amazing reputation and that your whole dinner bill was not charged to you. Thank you again for your comments and we hope that you will give us another chance to redeem ourselves.

I stayed at the Howard Johnson in Cornwall, PEI for three nights on business in July. I was originally booked at the Super 8 where I stayed the last time a few weeks earlier, and was very satisfied with this hotel but, upon checking, there was about an $80 difference between the two (overall) so I decided to try the Howard Johnson instead.
The staff at the Howard Johnson were very nice, and the hotel was very basic, but clean, however, I have to say that I preferred the Super 8. The room I had at the Super 8 was a bit more upscale and, in my opinion, the staff were a bit more professional in how I was managed. That's not to say that the staff at the Howard Johnson were incompetent but they were a little less attentive. It could also be that I happened upon the front desk at the wrong time... for example dinner time when the poor lady at the front desk was trying to eat her dinner, answer phones and handle reactivating my room key card at the same time.
As for the room, I reread the reviews and wonder if all of the hotel was updated or just a portion of it since my room didn't appear updated, except perhaps for the bathroom. My room also had paper thin walls since I could hear the poor lady coughing all night long next to me which didn't make for a very restful sleep.
I didn't try the pool so cannot comment on that. The breakfast was fine enough, with scrambled eggs, sausages, toast, etc. so I didn't really have a preference between the Super 8 and the Howard Johnson on that end of things.
Was it worth the $80 difference? In the grand scheme of things, I guess that's a personal decision to make!

Clean well kept and maintained rooms , obviously newly renovated. Friendly, helpful staff. Decent breakfast with hot items unlike other roadside hotel chains. Location is just a bit off from midtown. This is actually located in Cornwall not Charlottetown

We really enjoyed our stay. The rooms are all updated since our visit last year with new beds and furnishings. We enjoyed the chinese buffet Saturday night (lots of variety) great taste. Our group enjoyed a golf stay & play which was organized by the staff of the Dutch Inn. We just gave them our numbers and they arranged everything. We are already discussing plans to go again next year.
