Visited the 'Sandspit Amusement Park' while vacationing in PEI. Bought the family pass and went on the rides. There is a good selection to choose from for children & adults. You can go on the rides unlimited ! Ferris wheel, bumper cars and even bumper floats too. The go-cart track is an extra fee. Great place!

“Kids loved it!”

Not too busy, so kids could ride their favourite ride over and over and over and over and over... Nice picnic spots too.

“enjoyable vist with 11 year old”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2012

We took our 11 year old here during our annualk |PEI visit. We bought her the braclet for $23 which covered all rides except for the go carts. Not a bad value considering that she went on various rides at least 20 times. We found this park to be clean and staff were friendly. Wash rooms were well looked after and the shack bars were convinient.

“Burned more ways than one”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2012

Went to the sandspit on the second day of our family vacation and on the very first ride (bumperboats) my nephew who is autistic tried it alone but was unable to control the boat so the attendant allowed my sister (his mother) to ride with him however as I was next to the boat one of the attendants noticed grease on his shorts and informed me to bring my nephew over to him so that he could remove the grease at the end of the ride. My nephew appeard to have enjoyed the ride however at somepoint he managed to recieve 2 burns to the back of his leg.

The medical attendant (I think Keith was his name) was very nice however my nephew wouldn't allow him anywhere near him so my sister and I dressed the wounds.

When my sister called sandspit she was informed that there was no malfunction of the bumperboat and that 2 people never should have been riding in it.

Well Problem 1, There must have been something malfunctioning if a burn occured, DUH!!

Second Problem if 2 people shouldn't have been in the boat why did the attendant allow it to happen.

At this point we have spent over 100 on bandages and medications to ensure that it doesn't get infected as well for the most part the rest of my nephew's summer is ruined due to him not being able to do everything we would normally do with him.

I would welcome contact from the Management of the Sandspit as they have commented on a couple of other posts on here,

I just want to besure that everyone out there is aware of the potential for burns on their bumperboats and would love to see them investigated as to why this ever occured.

Adam H, Owner at Sandspit Cavendish Beach, responded to this review, August 23, 2012
Safety is a top priority at Sandspit, and we work hard every day to ensure a safe, clean and friendly environment for all of our guests. In addition to daily inspections by our staff, our rides are also inspected regularly by the provincial government and our insurance company. We are very proud of our safety record and our relationship with these regulatory bodies. Despite these efforts, incidents do occur from time to time due to a variety factors including equipment
malfunctions, environmental conditions, or customer behaviour.

To protect the privacy of those involved, we do not generally find first aid situations appropriate for discussion on our web pages or other public venues. While we welcome comments both positive and negative on all of our social media platforms we do not feel it is the best venue
for items such as this, but given the invitation in your post, we do feel it appropriate to respond to your questions.

Following the incident, we did discuss this matter over the phone, and we regret that you misunderstood our comments as you have portrayed them. On the phone call, we expressed our concern about the injury, and explained what we had discovered since.

The equipment was inspected following the incident and was found to be in good working order. They are a gasoline engine, and as such, do generate heat and exhaust. The exhaust pipe is covered by a heat shield, but some heat transfer is inevitable. They are not meant for
direct exposure. If skin is exposed to the heat shield for an extended period of time, there is potential for injury.

Secondly, we did indicate that it was not normal for two persons over 42" tall to ride a bumper boat. We generally limit it to one person over 42" tall and passengers below that. This was historically done for weight reasons, but there can be space issues as well. In this
case, an exception was made to allow an adult to accompany your son due to your expressed desire to assist him. Following this incident, we have removed any exceptions from the accompaniment rule, including those with special abilities until we have more time to consult with regulatory bodies as to appropriate accommodations.

Then, as now, we are open to discussing the issue further and would be doing a routine follow up within a week or so, with or without this post.
