Personally I never read the books or watched the shows/movies etc so I had zero interest in the place. That said, it was very picturesque and they did a nice job of explaining the various parts of the property as well as the history etc. I found it very touristy and unremarkable for the most part but my mother-in-law (who had read all the stories as a child) absolutely loved it so let that guide your choice of whether to visit or not.

OK, now I can say I've been there and done that. Admittedly, the facility is well restored and presented, and they do efficiently and effectively move the crowds in, around, and through the various areas of the site. However, in the end, it's just a house, some out buildings, and a plot of land with trees, flowers, and grass.

Unless you are a Anne of Green Gables fan this is not something I'd recommend. Unless, of course, you wife wants to see it. :-)

If you come to PEI you really do need to pay homage to Anne of Green Gables by visiting this site, but try to come within the first half hour before the masses descend. There is always something surreal about a place dedicated to a person that never lived; the house is interesting because it depicts the setting from the book but what I enjoyed was wandering the paths around the home, the places that helped inspire LM Montgomery in the first place.

This is a must stop to visit on the island , learn some history and see lots of old items and where it all happened.

When in PEI for the first time, one must venture to Green Gables to see the place where all the childhood book adventures were set. The house itself is very interesting and so reflective of Confederation times. Loved it. The shops are very crowded and busy. Ton's of tourist from Japan where we figure the Anne of Green Gables series must be english reading material and hence so many fans from the Far East. Very restful and lovely natural surroundings.
