Description: Nestled on the shore of the historic and tranquil Upper Rideau Lake in the quaint Village of Westport, is our family-owned, four season inn. The Cove Country Inn is known as one of the grand old houses in Westport. It was constructed in 1876 by the Fredenburgh family who owned the local sash and door mill. In the late 1920's, the buildings were converted into the Lexena Hotel under the management of Alex and Lena Brown. In 1932, the Robert's family added the beverage room (now the Lounge) and the Tweedsmuir Hotel became the place to visit on the Rideau. As time passed, the hotel's ownership changed several times, but the late Dick Ready's name stood out as giving his heart and soul to the hotel. In 1988, renovations were undertaken by the Cowans and the Carvers to restore the Inn to it's original proud state. Today, the Inn is a special place for local residents & visitors alike to enjoy great food, comfortable accommodations and the best in live entertainment. The Cove stage is home to the long-standing Blues on the Rideau Series, popular Jazz Night, MUSICwestport and many incredible local and international artists. Perched on The Rideau's edge and Westport Pond, The Cove is comprised of 15 guest suites, a full service 200 seat restaurant and 100 seat patio dining in the warmer months. To compliment your stay at our inn, the full service Sundari Day Spa is located just next door overlooking Westport Pond. The Village of Westport boasts a variety of wonderful shops and warm hospitality you won't forget. The Rideau Lakes area offers great boating, fishing and snowmobiling on picturesque lakes as well as hiking, snow shoeing and cross-country skiing in beautiful Foley Mountain Park...all just outside our doorstep! Come visit and enjoy our unique rural Ontario town experience. We look forward to hosting you!

“Great food and view”
Reviewed October 25, 2013

We had a fabulous lunch here last week. I had my mouth watering for the pickerel, but when we arrived at 3:30pm, we were told that we were between the lunch and supper - and they only had a munchies menu. Well...that was ample for us! We had fabulous roasted pepper soup, bruschetta, and huge salads - with the best rhubarb custard pie EVER!!!!! We will definitely be back here again - and plan to arrive in time for the 5pm dinner menu. Gotta have that pickerel!

“Lunch At The Cove”
Reviewed October 4, 2013

My wife and I and another couple were visiting Westport for some shopping and sightseeing. Around early afternoon, about 1:30 we decided to take a bit of a late lunch as a respite from shopping and the hope of recharging our batteries.

The Country Inn appears to be a heritage building with a large dining room area and patio with plenty of seating for any size group. The ambiance was not overwhelming as in fact the tables, chairs and settings were quite simple and low key - almost austere. Upon entering we waited for several minutes and saw no staff to greet us or direct us to tables. On our own we chose a table at the back of the large dining room with a nice view of the gardens and adjoining Westport pond. As the time was late in the lunch hour customers were leaving providing any number of tables , albeit, needing cleaning.Several people were at the bar area waiting for staff to appear to pay their bills - slow!!

There seemed to be only one server who finally came to our table and she appeared rushed and stretched a bit thin. However,to her credit she was pleasant and cheerfully explained the daily specials and answered questions about food and drink choices with a good product knowledge and enthusiasm. There is an extensive lunch menu with prices in the 12-14$ range.
The beverage list was also extensive and in this regard service was quite satisfactory with only minimal wait time.

The meal choices included two fish and chip meals, one pesto grilled chicken press (sandwich)
and a beef dip sandwich. The food was prepared quickly and was in fairly large portions. Unfortunately the F&C were overdone and presented a tough and very hard batter. The chips were nothing special. The other meals were adequate and tasty.

All in all a meal to "feed a need". Not much ambiance, nothing noteworthy. There are a few other places to eat in this town so it will be a while before a return visit.

“So lovely Im afraid to jinx it~”
Reviewed October 4, 2013

AN impromptu evening out with a girlfriend - landed us here. Grilled salmon on a wonderful salad, hearty poortions, and a charming waitress made for a teriffic evening. So much so that we lingered, chatted with other patrons, and indulged in desert that did not disappoint! As a local, I am proud to brag! And....I am going again this evening to ensure my review stands up!
Hope there more apple crumble.....

One of our party of four rated this restaurant highly; I was disappointed. I had the soup and pasta special. The soup was OK. The pasta and meatballs (only two) were quite mediocre. I suspect that the pasta came from a packet and that the meat sauce from a tin. A nice New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc added some quality to the meal, but at a price.

I am sorry the special that night wasnt to your liking. We do make our pasta fresh and not from a can and upon reviewing that night I remember asking many patrons who were delighted with the special. Please try us again so you can join the many contented patron list.

“Disrespectful Service /Staff”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

Went with another couple this past Labour Dat week-end. Walked in the balcony side & waitress abruptly told us "we're full" ....no sorry or suggestion we try their next door dining lounge. Went to the dining lounge & sat 5 min. (No greeter) and no one so much as acknowledged us. ...note it wasn't busy! We got up & walked to the backside to look for seating & although 2 staff members walked by us, NO ONE SO MUCH AS ACKNOWLEDGE OUR EXISTENCE. Our next move was to just walk out ...again not so much as "can we help you" or "we will be with you in a minute".

Very disappointing & we won't ever be back! This place could be a gold mine if they were ever to add service to their menu! #LostOpportunities

I hope people will understand that when you are serving over 500 people a day, that unfortunately one may slip through the cracks. I make no excuses except that we were extremely busy and these folks must have gone to our waiting area , which was not busy, assuming that they would be served there. We are sorry and hope they will give us another chance
