“Halibut or Chicken?”
Reviewed June 30, 2014

We recently had the good fortune of eating lunch at Duffy's in Southampton. I was drawn immediately as it looked to me like one of the fish and chips places i've seen before in Brighton, England. On the way in, we heard an exiting customer extolling on the delicious Halibut and so decided to give that a try. We opted for the "one piece" meal - which really was plenty as the Halibut portion was generous and it was accompanied by some excellent chips and a side of very decent cole slaw. The batter was very nice and the Halibut was amazing. It had a very hearty consistency almost like chicken. The chips were excellent with some provided malt vinegar. In all a very enjoyable and filling lunch - and one we hope to experience again when we visit Huron in the future.

“A perfect welcome to Southhampton”
Reviewed May 28, 2014

I have eaten at Duffy's several times. The Fish and Chips are excellent but that is not all you will find on their varied menu. The inspiration for the food is truly eclectic so it is worth several trips to sample it all. They have recently tweaked the interior to make a pleasant spot a bit more so. Service is good and portions generous.

“OMG!!! I LOVE THIS PLACE”
Reviewed May 25, 2014

My Wife and I and another couple decided to check out Duffy's famous fish and chips on our arrival to Southampton for the long weekend. Our first visit there was Friday night. The restaurant was busy but we were greeted pleasantly at the door and seated right away. A young man came to our table and told us he would be with us in a moment. He came back several minutes later and repeated the same thing, but seemed to forget us completely after a few more minutes. One of the other waitresses noticed us and asked if we had been served yet? My wife who was very upset at this point gave her a rather court negative. The waitress smiled pleasantly and said she would serve us. She was polite and pleasant and even managed to get my wife to come around. We ordered Sheppard's pie, hamburgers and Fish and chips. The food came out quickly, and looked amazing the salad that came with the sheppard's pie was well presented and did not contain head lettuce. My wife was again upset that her fries were over cooked. Sarah our waitress explained that it was late in the season for potatoes and the extra sugar was what made it look burnt. My wife was skeptical but tried it, and yes the waitress was right the fries were not burnt. We had a pleasant meal and on the recommendation of our waitress we had the fresh baked crumble which was fantastic. My Friend thought we should speak to the Manager and praise our waitress, but turned out the young man who had ignored us was the manager! We went back the next night and were served by the young man, who was not very pleasant but rather pompous! But the food had us back there wednesday when another young lady served us. The food was again delicious and our waitress was pleasant and well informed. Over all, great food, nice decor, could use some colour, great waitresses, the manager could take a few lessons.

“More than fish and chips”
Reviewed April 29, 2014

We visit Duffy's regularly and enjoy the warm, friendly service and comfortable atmosphere. There are other great choices on the menu beyond fish and chips. The 'homemade' Shepherd's Pie is yummy as are the crab cakes. The wait staff are very knowledgeable about the menu and are always helpful in making excellent choices. We love the new decor. Duffy's has the feel of a neighbourhood restaurant where visitors to our community will always feel welcome!

“The best fish and chips around!”
Reviewed April 15, 2014

We've been to Duffy's a few times and not once has there been a time where we were disappointed. The atmosphere is quaint and welcoming though the chairs are a bit hard and the arms make them uncomfortable for larger people like me! That aside, it reminds me a bit of places I used to go to on Queen St. when I lived in Toronto. Very friendly staff and great service.

The halibut is the star here. It's perfectly cooked, beautifuly battered, and you get a good sized piece. Compared to some other local places where you can get anything from soggy, oily cod to small square chunks of halibut, Duffy's doesn't skimp on the portion. The fries are excellent and you don't have to wait a long time for your food. Parking can be a bit of a pain in the summertime when all the tourists are here, but it's a nice little downtown to walk through if you have to park up the street and definitely worth it.
