“First week of our honeymoon in Canada”
Reviewed April 6, 2012

My husband and I have just returned from the most amazing honeymoon in Canada, starting off with a week staying at Blue Moon Retreat in the Sunset cottage. We were speechless when we drove down the lane to the cabin and were greeted with the view of the lake. Wow! It is the most tranquil place we have ever visited and perfect for some time relaxing after a very busy wedding and long journey from England. The cabin was wonderful - it had everything we could have wished for and more. After exploring the Algonquin during the day we relaxed in the hot tub or layed back in the LaZboys enjoying the view of the lake or watching a movie. We didn't want to leave at the end of the week and found Niagara Falls to be a bit of an anti climax after our wonderful week at Blue Moon! We nearly didn't leave as the car got a flat battery, but Tim and his Mum couldn't have been more helpful in getting us on the road. Blue Moon is the perfect getaway location and we will definitely spend one of our anniversaries back there!!

Room Tip: If there are just two of you Sunset cottage has the best view of the lake!!

Two moms and 3 kids just had a wonderful time at the Blue Moon Retreat. We were pleasantly surprised by the layout and ammenities at the cottage. It is more beautiful than the pictures show. The kids really enjoyed having the swing set and the sand box to play in. I can only imagine it must be wonderful in the summer when the lake isn't frozen and all the toys are out to play on! The kids loved time in the hot tub and then relaxing in front of the tv after all day outside. We hope to return again some day! It was spotlessly clean and comfortably furnished and fully equipped. Wonderful!

As first-time cottage renters for our new blended family of 6, we spent hours on the internet trying to find somewhere reasonably priced that had enough activities for 4 kids aged 8 to 16! We compared many websites but Blue Moon kept standing out. The rates were more affordable then most other places yet they seemed to have more to offer in the way of boats, water toys, and other activities such as tennis, air hockey, etc. We made the commitment and chose to book there and couldn't have had a better experience anywhere! We stayed in High Noon and it was the perfect size for us. The cottage was very clean upon arrival. There was never a dull moment during our stay. The kids were amused the entire time! And we adults actually found some quality alone time as well. The people who run Blue Moon were amazing and very helpful! We recommend this place to anyone! It was truly a lasting memory for every member of our family!

Room Tip: High Noon comfortably accommodated 2 adults and 4 kids.

We are 8 gals having a winter getaway. This is our 3rd year at BLue Moon - 1st year was at the Chalet and the last 2 have been at Shangi La. THey really do have everything you need. It is wonderful - even tho we got snowed in, the plow was there early SUnday morning to help us get out. The Hot tub could use some chemicals; We tested the PH and Alkalinity and both were low, but we had no access to chemicals. I can understand why they are under lock & key, but when we are there for 4 days, with 8 women in and out, it definitely needs some treatments during those times. Maybe living a small supply of chemicals, some test strips and instructions would be a reasonable suggestion. Also, the snow piled up against the cottage could cause flooding - last year we were almost flooded out and had to call maintenance. This year, we didn't get the same melt, but when it does melt, it will probably flood. The snow should be pushed away from the cottage. We also had issues regulating the heat - it was sometimes too hot, sometimes too cold! But i think that's just the nature of the system. ANyway - all and all, a wonderful time and we will definitely return for our 4th annual Blue Moon retreat! Oh and one more thing - the windows were TOO CLEAN. We honestly had to touch them to see if they were closed! Your cleaning crew is definitely awesome!

Room Tip: The only tip i would add is that if you are plugging the address into your GPS - the town is called...

If you're looking to get away this is the place to go! We have been going for the past four years during the winter months and it is always a memorable experience.

Room Tip: We've stayed at Maples and the Chalet - They are both excellent!

Just stayed at Blue Moon for the first time. We were up working in the area for the weekend and it was difficult to want to get away from the "Maples". It was so nicely appointed and very clean. The owners and crew must work hard because there wasn't a single thing out of place. As far as amenities, the cottage had everything that we needed. The pet friendly feature of Blue Moon is wonderful. Will hopefully return next year and stay longer. Thanks.
