“Quaint Country Restaurant”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

I had seen the restaurant written up in the local papers and had to try it. It has country charm and very pleasant staff. We went for lunch and were very happy with our meal. The fresh bread is amazing and we enjoyed our appetizers and main courses. It is reasonably priced.
We will be back!

“Nice Drive for a nice Sunday brunch”
Reviewed April 29, 2013

The family decided we wanted to have something different for a birthday luncheon so we headed to Hockley for a brunch. The drive was nice and we liked the location surrounded by nature. We had a table by the window and saw the birdfeeders with a Bluejay hopping around.
Our service was relaxed and helpful and the menus were on printed folded papers. Everyday there is something fresh made. Very limited menu options but enough for everyone to choose their favourites. The mussels were larger than we were used to but certainly were plentiful. The bread was baked daily and was tasty and replenished upon our request. My salmon was absolutely perfect with rice and veggies. Originally I thought the portion seemed small but realized it was a decent filling size. Everyone else liked their fish and chips. The fish shaped platter was a cute touch.
Our favourite were the deserts. There were so many good choices, we were especially thrilled that for a few more dollars you could get the "trio" of three different deserts. That was the best idea that we were surprised that we haven't seen this more often. We all agreed that my free trade decaf coffee was better than most.
For Sunday dinner there was a prime rib advertised with Yorkshire pudding and oven baked potatoes for $20. We decided we would come another time to try that meal. There was already a lot of people showing up for that dinner. Something for us to look forward too. We felt our bill was reasonable for 5 people with wine. The Rothchild was very good. Since it was a birthday they even brought the birthday girl her desert with a lit candle. Nice touch.

“Questioning TIP Policy”
Reviewed April 17, 2013

The restaurant is cosy in a nice country setting. Lunch was good. We had mussels & pate as an appetizer. We shared fish & chips. The chips were very good, however the fish seemed undercooked. The fish was basa, maybe not the right fish for frying (fish should be flacky not mushy). The thing I found unusual was the tip format. The "card charge machine" showed tip as 15%, 20% or 25%, and it was added to the TAX INCLUDED figure. Is this unusual? If ?? we go back, we will leave a $ amount on the table for service, drinks and food (not tipping the tax man).

“Disappointed”
Reviewed April 15, 2013

Went for lunch. Restaurant a bit out of the way and not very busy. Had to ask for menus even though there was only 1 other table with customers at time. Very small selection of choices at lunch and the food was only average at best. Felt ignored and that we were intruding on the server's conversations with the other table when we wanted service and cheque.
