“Great room, Good food, Average Service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2010

My girlfriend and I stayed there last weekend, and actually brought our 2 dogs. Our suite was right on the water, very clean, and updated. Very comfortable bed. The front desk and staff were very helpful. And while the food in the dining room was quite good, it was a bit pricey for what you got. Also the service was very slow in the restaurant and the lounge.

I am a big fan of the Delta Hotel chain because they are generally of good value and well managed but found this resort to be a bit of a disappointment in some ways. A great location on Lake Joseph helps - the check in process was very good. The room quality overall was OK -about average though we could see that some maintenance was due here and there - the initial build quality ( on the cheap side) I think in some of the buildings was starting to show some wear and tear. The chairs at our dining table were about ready to falll apart and actually did when I was sitting in one. I wondered who was letting this happen ? - The big letdown was in the food quality - our first dinner consisted of 4 different selections and none of us wanted to finish our meals - this was after waiting over an hour to have our main courses served. About the poorest meal and overall service I have had in a decade. And I found myself telling my family that its "not normally like this at a Delta". I will credit our waitress with at least recognizing the long wait time and poor quality as did another restaurant person who was nice enough to make an adjustment on our bill. Breakfast the next day was just very average . We avoided eating at the resort the next night. Dinner over at the golf course restaurant on the 3rd night was a little better and a great view. In fact, if you were a golfer, this resort would probably stand out a little more as the course looked great. Overall the staff that we met seemed to put forth a good effort and cheerful face. I suppose I shouldn't complain about the high price we paid for our room as we knew this going in ....but , when some other things are lacking, really good food can help smooth over the other deficiencies. I'm not sure if those issues will ever be taken care of though.
I may wait for a while before returning to this property.

We visited Rocky Crest Resort for 1 night on July 31st and were thoroughly dissapointed. Our room (1 bedroom suite) was not cleaned properly and smelled of mildew. The furniture was covered in sand, the shower was not clean, smelled horribly and the tiles were covered in mould. There was a terrible smell eminating from the sink and our toilet was broken which our 17 year old son had to fix. The pool area's garbage cans were overflowing at 11:00am the next morning and the towels were second rate. I would never stay at this resort again, nor would I recommend it. My son and husband golfed which was the most enjoyable part of the stay. However, the food in the club house leaves a lot to be desired.
We complained to Delta Resorts via email survey and was contacted by them almost 3 weeks later by email asking us to give times for a telephone conversation, which I promptly did. Have yet to hear from their Director of Rooms and it is 10 days later.

My family had a fantastic time at Rocky Crest. Where to begin. The grounds are convenient. Nothing is too far, be it the pool, the lake, the docks, the restaurant. The kids were never bored. They fished, canoed, took an ice cream cruise on Lake Joseph, swam, played on the water toys. The accomodations were comfortable and clean. Service good and a very laid back atmosphere. Kids had their chicken fingers, fries, pizza and hamburgers and the food for my wife and I didn't suffer; great variety and flavors. Fresh ingredients grown on the premises. It wasn't uncommon to see the chef pop outside to grab some herbs from the garden. We stayed 6 days 5 nights and it wasn't enough for my kids.

Although we didn't spend the night at Rocky Crest, we decided to stop in for dinner in the Lake Joseph Dining Room. We had heard so many great things about it we had to try it out. Upon arrival we were very warmly greeted by Mandy and seated at a corner table with a phenomenal view of the lake. Our server was Matt and he didn't miss a thing. He informed us he would do all he could to make our night special. The food was spectacular both in appearance and taste. The appetizer special was a scallop ceviche that was out of this world. It was presented in cucumber cups that added to its appeal. We couldn't pass on the fresh pickerel dinner nor the pasta puttanesca. The pickerel was served on perfectly cooked wild rice with a purple carrot puree. The fish was topped with a fresh salsa. The delicate flavour wasn't taken away with any heavy spices. The pasta also had an amazing depth of flavour. The beef tips that Matt suggested we add to the dish were exquisite. What was interesting was asking about a dish and have him explain it by describing the source of the ingredients and the cooking method. The staff were very knowledgeable about what they were serving. We found out that as much as possible was sourced locally. We complimented Matt on our dinner and he returned shortly with the Sous Chef and Adrienne the Fanshawe College Chef in training, who prepared the appetizer for us. What a great experience to be able to personally thank those responsible for such a wonderful meal. Although not dessert people Matt insisted that we indulge and he would put something together when he realized we were celebrating our birthdays. Suffice it to say we were thrilled to finish our meal and evening that way. We definitely will be back. We eat out a lot and all over the world. We give this meal and dining experience a 5 star rating.

We recently stayed at Delta Rocky Crest Resort. We enjoyed our stay immensely. We had hoped for an early check in but our room was not available at the time we arrived. A little inconvenient but they rushed to get it ready (only a 1 hour wait) The staff at the resort are young but very enthusiastic and aim to please. The rooms are certainly a little older but it felt like the cottage with all of the extras a cottage would not have: two outdoor pools, brand new tennis courts, water trampoline, kayaks and pedal boats. The kids loved it all. I wish we had tried the kids camp program but we were having too much fun as a family.

We will be back for sure.

I found the young staff at the resort fabulous and willing to please. Their amenities left much to be desired though. If you dont golf....your out of luck. The bike rental was a joke as they hardly worked and there were no tools to change the seat height. The restaurants and bar were good but crazy over-priced.
Probably would have enjoyed a week in Cuba for the same price as 3 days at Rocky Crest!!!
