“Money's better spent elsewhere”
Reviewed August 9, 2007

The grounds are beautiful, there's plenty to do if you want to socialise with the other guests, and water spa's not bad. But none of it compensates for the unexpectedly poor condition of the room.

Two nights of their cheapest accomodation cost us $600 (B&B package -- no dinners). The small, motel-like room was in serious need of a face lift -- the paint was scratched, carpets stained, tiny flatscreen tv gets only two channels, tiny loud bar fridge sits on the floor in the bathroom and there is no air conditioning or ceiling fan. We were on the ground floor of a two-story building and for safety reasons, did not keep the sliding door open all night. With only one window and the noisy floor fan to cool us we were stifling hot both nights. These are just a few of the issues we had with the room. When we retreated to the lovely parabola with two Muskoka chairs down by the lake, we found the chairs to be broken and unusable. Nothing about this room was worth the $600 or vacation time we spent. Just plain disappointing.

Stayed one night in August and there is no air conditioning at this property. Do not stay here in the summer! The spa is limited, could not even get a manicure! Nice grounds though.

We have stayed at a number of places in the Haliburton area and this was one of our best experiences. It is nice that it is geared to couples/adults (although there were a couple of kids - but very well behaved). The WaterSpa which is included in the price was fantastic. The upper level lounges overlooked the lake and was a perfect spot to enjoy the sunset. The staff was very accomodating (even brought us drinks to enjoy while watching the sunset). The food was fantastic and a nice variety. Even though the weather did not co-operate so we couldn't enjoy some of the offered water sports, we found enough to do in the inn and the in-room fireplace was a bonus in unexpectedly cool weather. We will definitely be returning. I found the price to be very fairly priced for what you get...not a budget holiday but not advertised as such either! Treat yourself...you won't regret it!

We recently visited Sir Sam's Inn and loved everything about the experience! We were greeted personally by the manager upon arrival, and given a tour of the facilities so that we would feel comfortable and at home. We felt very pampered, and totally relaxed when we left. Everyone there takes personal interest in your needs and wants. The young lady who waited on us for breakfast even remembered that our adult daughter preferred tea to coffee on our second breakfast visit to the beautiful dining room. The food was fantastic, and we all left the table completely satisfied with the taste, the portion sizes, and the presentation. The spa treatments were fantastic, and the water spa is very therapeutic. We also very much enjoyed an afternoon cruise onto Eagle Lake, with a very informative and yet relaxed boat "captain"! Our rooms were very cozy, with a wonderful view of the lake. I had mentioned that we would like a lakeview when we made our reservations, and it felt as if the manager remembered, because even though all the rooms have great views, ours had the special view we were looking for. These extra touches of perception by the staff are what made our visit so outstanding! We will certainly return!

We made a last minute booking to Sir Sam's Inn. We weren't sure what to expect but we knew that this was our only hope for our summer vacation.

Wow! It was amazing. There were tennis courts, a swimming pool, a lake, barbecues, bikes and canoes and kayaks. The people were very nice and friendly. I would definitely go back.

My husband and I just returned from this fabulous couple's resort, located on the shores of Eagle Lake in the Highlands. Our lakeside room was clean and offered a whirlpool bath and wood-burning fireplace. Be prepared to spend over $300 per night at this resort, but it is worth it, considering that you can canoe, kayak, mountain bike or play tennis. Also, we visited the new mineral pool that offers a unique hydrotherapy circuit designed to relax sore and tired muscles. The only thing we regret doing at Sir Sam's Inn, was having dinner in the Twin Fires dining room, as our meal was nothing special; very small portions and outrageously overpriced.

I took a trip to Sir Sam's Inn last summer and what a great time my wife and I had. They offer lakeside accomodations, some of the best food this side of Toronto and fantastic recreational activities to keep the most active person busy. The reasonable rate is all inclusive for all the activities and dinners and breakfasts. The Inn catering mainly to couples (no kids running around) and the little touchs kept us pleased. A boat tour around the lake, water skiing, tennis, mountain bikes, wind-surfing, kayaks, canoes, sailboats, peddle boats, bon fires at night, and live entertainment, what more could you ask for? We are definitely looking forward to a return visit this summer.
