“Will definitely visit Greg and hostel again when back in Nova Scotia:))”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 18, 2013

Greg has been a really superb host, not only a host but a fatherly figure to us two girls travelling. We booked a tour with Greg and he brought us around Nova Scotia. He was very sincere in his interactions with us, understanding, patient and put in all his effort, heart and soul into conducting the tour for us. Even though there wasn't a fixed itinerary and I was apprehensive initially, Greg's awesome tour really proved a pleasant and wonderful experience.
Nova Scotia is a really beautiful place. I will definitely consider visiting that country again in the future and if I do so, I'll still get a tour with Greg, I'll want him to bring me around again and I'll visit him at the same time. I will always remember the roasting of marshmallows together with Greg in his backyard and the little chats we had throughout the trip. Greg was also very flexible and understanding to adjust his schedule for our trip as best as he could and with that I'm really deeply grateful to have had such a great tour guide:) My experience at Nova Scotia was really wonderful as a result.

I didn't expect much because no one is talking about southern Nova Scotia, but Mahone Bay, surroundings and especially Gregs - Kip & Kaboodle Hostel are the best thing to visit on the East Coast. Plenty of things to see and to do in the south.
Perfect place to plan your day trips. Go for a hike, a bike ride or kayaking and explore the awesome nature. I really loved my stay at Gregs place.
Not good for city party people. Best for nature loving, exploring and easy going folk.
Stayed in late october and loved the peaceful and quiet area. 33 year old male from Germany.

Room Tip: Dorm is just fine!

This is a great find in this rather expensive area for budget travellers. The owner is really helpful with things to do and see in the area, and is genuinely interested in ensuring that the people staying get the most out of their time there. The beds are comfy, with sufficient room in the dorms. Also a lamp at each bed, and enough electricity sockets to go around.

The kitchen and common area is pretty small, and when the place is full, you would definitely need to cook in shifts!

Very friendly owner who picked us up at Halifax and immediately started to show us around, for example where we can find a supermarket, a pub, a small beach and so on. We got lots of help in planning our days and had nice evenings at the fireplace. The atmosphere is more like that of a friendly shared flat with a cosy living room and kitchen and the surrounding area and its small towns is amazing. We would really like to thank Greg for having a good time and would definitely recommend this place to others.

All the best,
Annika and Ruben

It was 3.30pm and I needed a bed for the night I rang the hostel and low and behold a New Zealand voice answered....an instant winner for a fellow kiwi. This hostel is a little gem, everybody I meet was so friendly and interesting and the location is great, in the hub of beautiful spots to be explored. I was going to just stay one night but Greg told me lots of places to see locally and also said there would be a bonfire and giant marshmallows to toast the next evening (which totally swung my decision, who could turn down the opportunity to have toasted marshmallows)!
This place makes me proud to be a New Zealander!

I had a great stay here .. it was comfortable and clean and the hosts were friendly and easy-going. Bathrooms were spotless. I will stay again for sure if I am on the South Shore again. Really close to Lunenburg and Mahone Bay. Price can't be beat considering the location.
