When visiting the Annapolis Valley, take the time to stop at the beautiful Grand Pre Winery. The property is beautiful and wonderful photo opportunities to enhance a visitor's photo keepsakes (view, property and vineyard.) Staff will lead you through a number of tasting opportunities which are delightful and informative for the novice to the wine expert in the beautiful wine shop.
Many visitors will be lucky enough to have the opportunity to meet owner Hanspeter Stutz who is generous with his time to talk about wines to vines. He is passionate about food and wine and building the wine industry.
Grand Pre wine is a popular place for special events, so it is advisable to check ahead to make sure the time you are planning on visiting is a good time for you to have a full experience. There is a also, a world class restaurant at the winery which should be factored into a visit. (LeCaveau)

Lovely food in a lovely setting. The outdoor terrace area is a nice place to have a bite and a flight.

STAY AWAY! After spending huge dollars for a private wine tour, buying a half case of wine and a four course dinner at their restaurant, we returned the next day for another bottle of sparkling before we left town. A big sign advertised shipping anywhere in the world, "just ask". Since we had a few bottles from other wineries as well, I asked for a box so we could put them all together for our flight home. I was told a box would cost an extra $5. Are you kidding me? I asked for the manager and was abruptly told I was speaking with the owner. Reminding them of the several hundred dollars we had contributed the day before resulted in a gruff reply that their cost for each box was $5. I'm no expert in packaging costs, but I highly doubt that the wholesale cost for a cardboard box is $5. By looking around the place I guarantee their margins aren't so thin that a box will affect their bottom line. As for the winery; the grounds are beautiful, the tour was average, the wine was only drinkable but the dinner was nice. Being treated in this manner was inexcusable and left a sour taste in my mouth in addition to the empty hole left in my wallet. BTW- we ended up going to the NSLC store where the staff were very helpful (and for free, too)!

We are very sorry to hear that you had a bad experience at our winery and that you left unhappy.
We feel that we need to clarify a couple of points.
We do not ship anywhere in the world, we are only legally allowed to ship within Canada as our signage states. We only charge $7 per person for our tour and tasting and this is an average cost within the Nova Scotia Wine industry for this type of service.
Our shipping boxes include special inserts that guarantee products will arrive safely, it is not just a card board box and therefore the cost for such shipping box is higher. There must have been a miscommunication about your purchases the day before, and we are terribly sorry for that.

It is not impressive to be turned away from an estate winery because they don't have time to serve you. One couple doing a tasting can be as important as a bus-load, but that is not how this winery acted. We were disappointed to drive all the way up there, only to be told to wait half an hour because they were waiting for a bus tour. We could have tasted and been gone, but instead we were just gone.

Since visiting last year, we have fallen in love with Domaine de Grand Pre's wines, especially their incredible Ortega! They offer detailed, unpretentious wine tastings that fun, even for a beginner, as we were. The more you try, the more you can appreciate what they offer. We returned happily this year. Try the Dolce Vida red ice wine, much different than any other I've had before and not as potently sweet. You'll find something you'll love! Check out the little info "exhibit" downstairs too.

Must also mention we showed up while a huge bus tour of older adults were halfway through their tasting, but we were greeted warmly and advised to wait 10 minutes. We did and had a great tasting by ourselves with a new staff member who did a great job. They quickly helped check out the entire crowd and there was next to no line once we were ready to buy. Well handled considering how busy they were (and close to closing time), we appreciated their attentiveness and bought every single wine we enjoyed :)
