“Luxury Within The Vineyard!”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

We stayed at the Olde Lantern Inn and Vineyard for two nights and found it unique and wonderful. We stayed in the Vineyard room which was very large and had its own private entrance. Surrounded by grape vines for the Domaine de Grand Pre winery made it a very special environment. The walk home through the Vineyard, with the way lit by candles, from dinner at the winery restaurant "Le Caveau" was especially romantic even for us celebrating anniversary number 46! Definitely like a honeymoon. Al the owner for 19 years definitely made us feel at home. The French toast breakfast one day and the ham and cheese omelet the next morning were two of the best breakfasts we had on our entire trip. We enjoyed our wine and cheese, purchased from the winery, on the deck overlooking the Bay in the distance. It was only a short walk to the valley overlook park with displays explaining the history of the dykes created many, many years ago controlling the water and creating lush farming land. A truly marvelous two nights.

Room Tip: The Vineyard Room I believe was special but we did look at a couple of the other rooms in the main h...

We loved our stay at the Olde Lantern Inn. Six members of my family descended upon the Inn, including two children. We stayed in two rooms—The Wine Cellar and In the Vineyard, both of which were lovely and had private or semi-private entrances. In the Vineyard had very nice views of the vineyards; The Wine Cellar had a private patio. Of the two rooms, I preferred In the Vineyard. We were greeted warmly upon arrival and each day brought welcome and thoughtful advice on what to see, where to dine, etc. A bountiful breakfast was beautifully prepared and cheerfully presented each morning. The evenings brought magnificent sunsets to be enjoyed from the deck overlooking Grand Pre. There is another lookout just beyond the vineyards—a very pleasant 2-3 minute walk—where you can sit and have a picnic, gathering wild blueberries and blackberries on your way back to the Inn. When the sun goes down and the sky is beginning to fill with stars, lounging in Adirondack chairs around an outdoor fire while sipping a glass of wine is a great way to end the day. Lanterns are lit at the end of each row of vines at about this time and the whole place seems magical—flickering flames, stars, and all. Many thanks to Al Connor for making our stay so wonderful. His kindness, attentiveness, good humor, and easy-going manner were very much appreciated.

The location is first rate. Rooms are fine. Breakfast delicious. Would stay here again just for the convenience of the place. If you just want to get in and out and are not looking for a friendly place, you will love it. No maritime hospitality here--doubt the innkeeper is a maritimer. Breakfast over every day at 8:30am--no long leisurely morning here. As we were told on check in... It is a bed & breakfast not a bed & lunch!! That says it all.

Two young honeymooners - made this our first night after flying in to Halifax!

Beautiful spot and the quality you get for the price is totally impressive! In Ontario, staying right on a vineyard in a B&B is $400+/night! So this was such a treat to be able to fit this in to our trip and our budget!

Grounds & Gardens are lovely. Many private decks for you to enjoy a drink while watching the sun go down! Do the winery tour/tasting and have dinner there at Le Caveau restaurant! It was honestly the best meal we had on our entire honeymoon - better than the 5 star restaurant we went to in Halifax!

Our room was lovely (on the main floor with private entrance). TV, Air Conditioning, large bed, updated bathroom, lots of room! The Inn keepers were great, gave us Ice Bucket to keep a few drinks cold, and made a great breakfast. Ask them about things to do and see around the area during the day. They told us about "walking the ocean floor" at Blomidon Park. One of the best things we did our entire honeymoon - great place to take fun pictures!

Can't wait to come back!

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Olde Lantern Inn on our trip through Nova Scotia after reading the reviews on here. It was our first time staying at a B&B and we were very impressed. The inn was very cozy and comfortable. The host Al welcomed us to wander the vineyard and enjoy the sunset. There were a few decks outside so you could sit alone and enjoy each others company. It was also located next door to the Domaine de Grand Pre winery which is where we went for supper (delicious!). The inn was just slightly off the beaten path so while it was very easy to find and get to, it was also quiet and felt like you were out in the country side. After our supper next door at the winery we enjoyed a walk through the vineyard and found some benches to watch the sun set. Breakfast in the morning was a choice of french toast or a ham and cheese omelette with juices, coffee, etc. We both chose the french toast and thought it was delicious, other guests who chose the omelettes were also commenting on how delicious they were.

We had stayed in 'in the vineyard' room which was downstairs and had a private entrance. I read the other rooms upstairs are slightly smaller which wouldn't have been an issue for us, but the private entrance was nice. All in all a great stay!
