Very nice little roadside seaside rest stop. Nice lobster sliders. Tasty salads. Not elegant or done up. Just good food and service with a nice harbour view right on the road.

This restaurant is right on the water....the parking area is on the dock. There is a screened porch as well as a dining room with a quaint and comfortable décor. The food is excellent and well presented. The prices were reasonable as are the portions. Loved the chowder and the lobster roll combo. Would recommend it highly.

A pleasant find along Highway 3 in Chester basin. We stopped to take photos nearby and decided to have lunch here.

My husband ordered the Seafood Chowder and it was wonderful, but like others have written, we thought for the price for the cup was expensive for the portion size compared to the bowl. I ordered the Fish Cakes served with chow-chow, a green tomato relish, and home-baked beans which I enjoyed very much. We shared the Blueberry Grunt dessert which was to die for!

The restaurant has a homey atmosphere. Service is friendly and relatively quick for this busy eatery. Overall pricy but worth the stop.

Haven't been to this restaurant in many years - decided to take a drive down with a friend. Had the lobster roll and seafood chowder combo for $20. While the food was excellent, the portions were small & I was still hungry afterward. The chowder is among the best I've ever tasted, but it was served in something smaller than a "cup". Similarly, the lobster roll was small - while good, it could have used some celery and a bit of spice added. The lemon mousse dessert was to die for.

Every time our family travels to Nova Scotia, we simply have to make a stop at the Seaside Shanty. What is it and what is so special about it?
The Seaside Shanty is a seaside seafood restaurant located on Highway 3 in Chester Basin on Mahone Bay, in beautiful Nova Scotia. It serves the best chowders this side of heaven. Unlike chowders that are full of potatoes, the Seaside Shanty’s seafood chowder is brimming with chunks of haddock, mussels, baby scallops, shrimps and lobster in a well-seasoned rich and creamy sauce. If you like lobster, their lobster chowder is to die for. They also serve Corn Chowder and Chester Basin’s traditional Haddock Chowder, as well as a Lobster and Seafood chowder which is considered “the ultimate seafood indulgence”. At $20.00, it is a meal in itself that is served with warm home-made tea biscuits.
If you just want fish and chips or clam and chips, this is not the place to go to. They do, however, serve Solomon Gundy - a local Nova Scotia favourite consisting of marinated herring, sweet onions and sour cream which reminds me of Holland.
Also on the menu are Drunken Mussels, their famous Curry Cream Mussels, Tarragon Scallops, Surf and Turf, as well as pasta dishes like Tarragon Cream Fettuccini containing chunks of lobster, shrimp and scallops. They also serve Shrimp and Scallop OR Lobster Alfredo.
Fish Cakes are one of their best sellers. It is served with chow-chow, a green tomato relish, and home-baked beans.
The restaurant has a homey atmosphere. Service is friendly and relatively quick for this busy eatery.
