“True Cape Breton experience”
Reviewed November 12, 2010

What a pleasant surprise awaited us at The Normaway Inn and Cabins. We wanted to have a true Cape Breton experience and it all began as we entered the beautifully treed driveway. Our room in the Inn was clean and comfortable. After walking the properties we had a wonderful dining experience.and then, with wine in hand, we went to the "livingroom party". Here we had the amazing experience of listening to a father who was accompanied by his charming 15 year old daughter.. They were not only the genuine Cape Breton music experience that we were searching for, but also answered questions on what life was like there both in the past and the present. In the morning it was back to the diningroom for the delightful breakfast buffet, which also included the all to delicious oatcakes, Yum. After a breathtaking tour of the coast we were ever so happy to return "home" and attend another jolly livingroom party. Again we were entertained by a local Cape Bretoner. An evening of information and laughter. So, we say, if you want a true experince head to the Normaway. Would I recommend this place to my friends? Most certainly. Would I return? Tomorrow. .

My boyfriend and I just spent about 12 days touring Nova Scotia in mid October. The Normaway Inn was such a nice change of pace from the other more typical hotels and B&Bs. I would highly recommend this inn. We were there late in the season so only the cabins were open, which was just fine for us. For about $20 more we opted for one with a hot tub which was a nice treat. We ended up staying 2 nights instead of 1 since it was just too hard to leave this cozy beautiful place. Would love to go back in season and experience the restaurant and music!

We chose this inn based on references from a biking tour company, and were we ever happy we did. The owner was on-hand during check-in & even let us choose a room, which we were totally delighted with. This is an "all-inclusive" get-away. There is a wonderful restaurant on-site, and every detail to make your stay enjoyable was provided. There were bikes to ride and even walking sticks to accompany our nearby hikes. Every evening there was wonderful live entertainment in the living room. This was truly our most memorable lodging during our month-long trip to Nova Scotia & surrounding islands. The owner was gracious and the location was great to tour the Cape Breton area.

The food and nightly celtic music in the Library were worth the trip, but the Normaway could use some TLC. The setting is spectacular and the staff was very accommodating. But it's an old lodge that could use some updating.

We were in Cape Breton to attend Celtic Colours and happened upon the Normaway in "Doers & Dreamers". Were we lucky! It was a great place to stay. The lodge was perfect and we totally relaxed and enjoyed our stay. The entertainment in the evening with Louis Arsenault was perfect. We are already talking about our next visit.

Our third consecutive year now that we've spent at the Normaway Inn for Thanksgiving. If you're looking for peace and quiet, great entertainment and simply the best in food and service, this is very definitely the place.
David and his staff welcome you with quaint and comfortable accommodation and a setting that is beyond description. The drive in the tree lined lane is just a hint of what's to come.
We enjoy hiking/ woods walks and there are an abundance in the area from easy going to challenging. The front desk staff or David himself will share with you a multitude of options for walks and sightseeing and theres' always a ride on one of the provided bicycles. There's word of a 300 foot waterfall right there in the vicinity that we have not yet gone in search of. The Highlands National Park via Margaree Harbour is no more then 40 minutes away, so if you have the ambition to do the Trail.....
"The Barn" is the on-site entertainment venue for usually Saturday night and they'll be entertainment of some sort in the Living Room other nights. We've seen Lewis perform numerous times and he has a delightful way of bringing a roomfull of relative strangers around to mutual enjoyment and amusement.
A little piece of Heaven.

My husband, daughter, son and their spouses stayed a night at the Normaway Inn on our way to the Celtic Colour Festival this past weekend in October 2010. We had one of the white cabins and one of the green chalets booked. I could not believe the mess they were in. For the amount of money that you pay I was expecting a much better facility. It does not look like they have done anything to them since the 1970s. And even the matresses looked like they had been there since then. I tried not to think about what might be living in them. The bedding was just as old too. And the curtains on the windows looked like they had been there since the 1970s and most of them were hanging half off. There was no TV or phone in the rooms only an old cassette player!!! We were fortunate in that we are a family who is musical and we had brought our guitars. We were able to entertain ourselves but I don't know what people would do who would be expecting to settle in and watch a movie!! Door knobs were broken, the tub had a big crack that someone had fixed by sticking huge globs of caulking all along it. There were 4 of us staying in the rooms and we had told them this when we booked it, hovever there were only 2 face clothes and towels in the bathroom. Not enough for everyone to shower. There was a coffee maker with one package of coffee and whitener and sugar but no stir sticks. It was just incredibly over priced. The following night we stayed in a very clean and very nice motel in Baddeck for a fraction of the cost that we paid at the Normaway Inn. I plan on telling everyone I know not to go there. In fact I have already started and I have spoke with someone else who also said they found it terrible. i can't say enough bad about this place. I hope that everyone will avoid it so they don't have the terrible experience we had.
