We chose Ceilidh Cottages because, amongst other things, the site had a) a swimming pool and b) 'full take out restaurant and shop'. In retrospect we should have been warned by the lack of photos on their website, but still... After a long drive to Mabou, we followed the directions along a bumpy lane to what initially looked like a scruffy trailer park. On realising that this was, in fact, Ceilidh Cottages, we decided to make the best of it and check in. Smelly reception area crawling with children, slightly brusque receptionist...still, we were there now and it was getting too late to go anywhere else so we checked in. After a quick inspection of the cold, Spartan 'cottage' we started off to find the swimming pool. Small, full of green scum, closed. Went to find the take out restaurant and shop. Closed. Went back to the reception and pointed out that several of the facilities which were offered on the website weren't, in fact, available. We asked for a reduction in compensation at which point the brusque receptionist became even more brusque. Didn't get a reduction, did get a cold, wouldn't recommend it.
