“Fabulous breakfast!”
Reviewed August 27, 2011

We stayed two nights in room six. The view was amazing. The Inn is very quiet and run professionally. It was my first choice of places to stay and I was not disappointed. I had read several favourable reviews but nobody mentioned the fantastic breakfast. The food is amazing. Definitely worth getting up for, but you have to get up early so be prepared - breakfast is served from 8AM to 8.30AM and that may deter folks that like to sleep in when they are on vacation.

Room six has a large window over the bathtub, so you can sit and enjoy the bubbles and look out over the ocean and the fortress. How does it get any better than that? If you visit Louisbourg catch the Thursday night walk through the fortress. Driving up to the fortress at night, and even better seeing the stars between the historic streets, is something you must see. We just loved it. All in all the Inn just added to our fantastic time in possibly the friendliest town in Nova Scotia.

Our recent two day stay was just great....clean, well-appointed rooms, comfortable public areas, and wonderful breakfasts. The staff could not be more welcoming and gracious.

We stumbled upon the B&B on our way through Louisburg and Parker (the owner)showed us around the place. We were impressed and decided right away to stay - it was an excellent decision. The house is a beautiful old place that has been extensively upgraded but has not lost one bit of old-world charm. The stay and breakfast were first-rate.

We chose this B&B based on reviews on this site and were not disappointed. We arrived after spending a very wet day at the Fort. Our room was very comfortable and clean and spacious. Breakfast was quite magnificant, we had fresh baked muffins and soda bread followed by a pop over filled with banana and local wild blueberries it was quite lovely.

We ate dinner at the Grubsteak and it was very nice (one of the places recommended by Parker). Their porridge bread is lovely.

From the 100 year old stairs to the historic details and cleanliness - a great experience. This quaint Inn offers a quiet solitude and a great breakfast. Our hosts were very pleasant and ensure our every need was covered. We will be back!

We visited Louisbourg late last August with another couple. We tried to get rooms at either the Louisbourg Harbour Inn or it's sister property just up the road, the Louisbourg Heritage House however there was only one room available at each B&B. We were staying for two nights so our friends booked at the Louisbourg Heritage House and we stayed at the Harbour Inn. After much discussion we could not decide which house we liked best.
We had tours of both of these Victorian era houses and were so impressed by the lovely rooms. Not decorated in overdone pseudo Victorian decor that seems prevalent these days, the rooms were bright and cheery with marvelous colours. Both establishments had balconies and the Heritage House has one for each room. The Harbour Inn has a couple of rooms with private balconies but one large one facing the harbour where we all enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine. We had a delicious breakfast in each location.
Louisbourg is a delightful fishing town and the people are friendly. The Fortress (which is a fantastic reconstruction of a real fort) is a great day out and there are beautiful walks along the shore. The Lighthouse Trail and the Louisbourg Playhouse (live Celtic music) are close by, so lots to do.
We all will be returning to visit Louisbourg again this year but also to explore more of Cape Breton.

This was our 15th consecutive trip to the Louisbourg Harbour Inn and we are never disappointed. The Inn is as beautiful and well kept as it was when we first stepped across the threshold in 1996. Our hosts, Parker and Suzanne continue to make every guest feel special and welcome. The town of Louisbourg remains quaint and untouched by the "masses." This is an incredible place to just "get away" and relax.
