This place is a very friendly, reasonably priced lodge and cottage colony. The staff really cares about the place and Cape Breton and shares their enthusiasm. The view of the bay is fantastic and there is a large sandy beach. It is a million dollar location. The dining room is very attractive and the food is good to very good ( my attempt to assign a New York Times kind of rating.) The pub with very good local singers is great entertainment. And my two young adult children and I loved the nightly bonfire. Our room was fine and the bathroom was modern. The cottages look on the rustic side but hey... For those with a bigger budget, there are new ultra cottages just built. You'll like it.

Thank you very much for all your kind remarks and compliments to the Glenghorm and our friendly staff! Your comments are very true - we are extremely fortunate to have a "Cape Breton" staff that really care about their work place, and the enjoyment of their guests. We definitely have a million dollar location, and we have accomodations to suit all budgets. I hope you have the opportunity to come stay with us again.

The website of this hotel can trick you into thinking that this place has their [--] together - but they don't. The rooms can only be described as dank (we didn't stay in the cottages, although they didn't look much better) and we saw many bugs in our rooms, including in our bed the next morning.

The main reason to spend time in Ingonish is the beaches. And yes, this place has a decent beach; but I'm pretty sure with all the cottages in the area you could find some place way nicer for the same price.

Paying $120 for this crappy room felt like robbery.

Glenghorm Beach Resort is located on the Cabot Trail. The Beach Resort name comes from the fact we have two deluxe beach houses on the property along with a children’s playground, bicycle rentals, nightly bonfires and a pub with nightly entertainment. The deluxe beach houses are professionally decorated with jacuzzi tubs, kitchenette, fireplaces and two TV’s – the room rate of the suites does drive up the average rate – the suites start at $195 per night however you can get a B&B package in a basic hotel room for $109 per couple. The cottages at the resort are rustic and we have guests that have been returning to the cottages for 20 years. The cottages are great for golf groups and families with young kids since there is a lot of sleeping space. Any hotel room comments were addressed when one of the buildings was demolished before the 2009 season began. The long term plan is to build more deluxe beach house suites however we listen to our guests and the majority did not want the rustic cottages to be changed into Beach houses at this time so they are available to rent – professionally cleaned daily. The rustic cottages are just that – rustic – however if you are looking for a beautifully decorated suite near the ocean in Ingonish with a private sand beach we have it. The hotel rooms are basic traditional hotel rooms and there is no view of the ocean from your room – but you can walk down the path in the evening to enjoy an evening bonfire or in the morning to gaze over the ocean with your morning coffee while relaxing in an arderondack chair.

The staff is extremely friendly and helpful however we have hired new students in the past few years who were just becoming familiar with the property and the procedure on customer comments. As the manager of this facility I take great pride in servicing guests from around the world and if there is anything wrong with a room or the service at Glenghorm I personally would be available to take care of it with the customer. I invite all of you to visit us in 2010 and be sure to stop in and say hello – my door is always open.

We stayed in one of the housekeeping cottages which are in need up updating. The kitchette was poorly equiped, the bed not the most comfortable, and the bathroom cramped and a bit ghetto. However, we had a beautiful view of the ocean which was spectacular. The grounds are gorgeous and the beach very pleasent to walk on (it is mostly rocky though, especially at high tide and not wide open sand which some might dislike but which I personally like for beach combing. and the rocks weren't jagged - rounded rocks, some small, some large. so not trecherous to walk on, but requires some attention). The restaurant was lovely as well. What I liked most was the live music in the pub in the evening - there was an amazing duo playing the night we were there, complete with fiddle and lots of wonderful stories about the past and present of Cape Breton. It was great! The live music made all the other downsides of the facilities fade away. I came to Cape Breton not to be pampered and have a santized experience but to enjoy the natural and cultural environment and so we were very successful and are so glad we chose Glenghorm!!

Thank you for your comments regarding your stay at Glenghorm Beach Resort. The cottages at our resort are rustic, and great for groups and families with young kids, since there is a lot of sleeping space. The long term plan is to build more deluxe beach house suites, however - we have many guests that have been returning to these cottages for the past 20 years, and have become very attached to them. We've been listening to our guests, and the majority did not want the rustic cottages to be changed into deluxe beach houses at this time. The other attraction to these cottages is that they are situated in prime location, right on the ocean front, and they overlook a private sandy beach.

Thank you for your lovely comments about our dining room and nightly entertainment in our pub. One of the highlights here at Glenghorm is the wonderful Celtic entertainment that we have downstairs in our quaint and cozy thirsty hiker pub.

I was very nervous to stay here, let me begin by saying that. After reading all the other reviews I had no idea what to expect. My husband had to go here for a business trip and we thought that we would make it a family vacation. The grounds were fine and the ocean and the beach were beautiful. There were a few rocks at the top of the beach but a few feet into the beach it was nice and sandy. The waves were something I will always remember...they were BEAUTIFUL. Now as for the rest of our stay, The cabin we stayed in was clean but it is very dated, it had a "few" bugs. On the first day I killed a couple of spiders and the rest of the time I killed alot of earwigs. Besides these things I would like to say that the Glenghorm is going through alot of updates and renovations. I would stay here again but I would stay in their new beach houses. My kids had a great time and it was alot of fun for them, there was alot for them to do. The restaurant was very expensive, but the food was great.

I was worried about this accommodation after the reviews on Trip Advisor. We used this resort as a stopover before getting on the ferry to Newfoundland. The rooms are clean, but several beetles were found in the kitchenette. The bathroom is small. The view of the ocean and beach from the room was great, but the windows don't open. There are 2 doors into the room, one from outside and the other from an interior hallway. The beach is not swimmable due to the rockiness. Walking on the beach is difficult. The chairs that sit above the beach were great to watch the waves. The restaurant, for which we had dinner and breakfast vouchers, was lovely with great food. While check-in and check-out was easy, staff were cool and unsmiling.

This is a motel, not a resort. We stayed in the Eileen building which was supposed to be an upgrade from the other motel rooms (I would hate to see what the others look like). It was your standard 1970s-era room with 2 double beds. It was clean enough, but just not that great. An OK stopping point along the way, but not like a resort that you would want to stay at for a few days. Absolutely lousy service at the restaurant, so avoid that at all costs.
