“Exceptional cabin- disapointing resturant”
Reviewed July 20, 2009

The cottage was exceptional and very clean, well worth the price. You may want to check for pillows before it becomes inconvenient.
The restaurant was anything but exceptional and we were very disappointed to say the least. I will take the blame for this in part because the writing was on the wall. Had I actually looked at the menu before making the reservation I would have known to stay clear.
It was painfully obvious that the “chef” or more accurately the “cook” was terribly over-extended and the repetitive, un-creative menu certainly did not live up to the billing nor did it command a $200 bill for a table of three. I could go on to critique the entire over priced menu but will refrain and just issue a caution that one, of course, should browse the wine list as well as the menu prior to sitting!

We stayed for three days in late May. Our cottage was clean and comfortable. Our host was welcoming and gave us some good advice about our time in the area. We had beautiful views of the water and mountains. The bathroom was large and clean. The bedroom was also large and clean and the bed was very comfortable. Our breakfast each morning was ample and very tastey. We enjoyed ouselves thoroughly. I would highly recommend a stay at this establishment!

We selected this resort based on the reviews, location and amenities. Mountain bikes and kayaks usage were included in the cost of the unit, which initially seemed to justify the extra cost. The owner encouraged us to ride the bikes on mountain trails however we wisely chose to stay on the paved roads. The bikes were rusted and in poor repair, which we discovered biking down a hill that both the gears and brakes did not work. Following the moderate injuries incurred, out of concern for future renters, I informed the owner that repairs were needed. He was quite defensive and accused us of "manhandling" his bikes which caused the problems. My feeling is that selecting to stay at this hotel should be based on the unit but not the sports amenities. Interestingly, many locals told us that this hotel was overpriced and that the restaurant was too expensive. We enjoyed fresh seafood and well priced meals at the Chowder House in Neils Bay.

We only ate in the restaurant and only at lunch but found everything so great we drive all the way from Cheticamp for another lunch. The price was well worth it. The seafood chowder was great as were the lobster sandwiches. The service was cheerful and apropriately attentive without being overbearing. Wonderful atmosphere with tasteful paintings on teh wall with a wonderful view of the bay. We gave it a 5 out of 5

Loved the cottage - peaceful and picturesque. Pricey, but definitely in top form - would love to come back. BUT - would totally avoid the restaurant. The appetiser was tiny, and for an entree we got an undercooked lobster, still slimy in its shell. The house dry white wine was unpleasantly sweet and served in a cheap glass.

Stay at this resort by all means - enjoy it - but have your dinners elsewhere.

The Seascape cottages were exactly what we were looking for during our stay in Ingonish. The cottage had everything we needed. We had a separate bedroom and living area which was great. The cottage had several great features, mainly the mini fridge and the fireplace. And having seafood hor d'oevres waiting for your arrival is a lovely touch. They were delicious! The two best things about the cottage though are the big picture window and the great little deck outside with armchairs, both of which look out over the ocean of Ingonish Bay. The view from both is stunning. It was wonderful to be able to leave the windows open and listen to the ocean as we slept. And the smell of salt water is invigorating!
The cottage was fantastic, but we can't forget that there was also a hot tub on the property, which we didn't get a chance to use and a beautiful garden.
One of the only downfalls of the Seascapes is that they don't have a sandy beach. The beach in front of the cottages is covered completely in rocks. However, you don't have to go too too far to get to the sand.
The only other issue we had was with the on-site restaurant. We had a pricey ($150) dinner one of the nights during our stay and the food was very mediocre. We each ordered lobster and it was very bland and didn't have much taste to it at all. Being a native Cape Bretoner, I know how lobster should be cooked--with lots of salt! The worst part about our meal however, was the service. I'm not sure if our waitress was new, but it was very bad service. Hopefully it was just a fluke.
For GREAT authentic seafood try the Chowder House in Neil's Harbour and our favorite, on the other side of the trail in Cheticamp, All Aboard. We each had a full lobster, full set of crab legs, and veggies for $22 each! You'll never find that anywhere else!
So other than the restaurant issues, we really loved the Seascape cottages and would stay there again for sure!

Travelling around Cape Breton and Nova Scotia, there were many places we stayed, however THANK GOODNESS for Seascapes, this place was top of the rankings by a mile. There are lots of small cottages, all with breathtaking views across the water, you could sit on your own sunterrace and become mesmerised by the scenery which surrounds you. Within your cottage you have everything you need, good storage, comfy bed, lounge, kitchenette and microwave.

Also there is a restaurant on site, which makes it easy for an evening meal, which the meals were excellent not your typical greasy, fryed or bing food - ( microwaved from frozen ) all the choices were fresh homemade and sourced from local produce and tasted absolutely fantastic.

All i can say is if your travelling past, you would be a fool not to stop and share the experience.
