This is one of the nicest places we have stayed. It is cozy, clean, welcoming and the cottages feel like they are brand new even though they are about 6 years old. Each cabin has a small gas fireplace, TV, mini-fridge, microwave, and a sink , set up like a small wet bar. The cabins are staggered so that privacy is well maintained.

The full breakfast that is included is held between 8-10 am which gives you a chance to sleep in and still have a DELICIOUS breakfast. As opposed to one B&B we stayed in where the cold breakfast was between 8-8:30!

They have a hot tub on the premisis, along with a beautiful garden you can stroll through, and a private beach you are welcome to use. They also have complimentary kayaks they will lend you if you like to kayak.

The owners are very friendly and complimentary afternoon snacks are delivered daily to your cabin.
We thoroughly enjoyed our 5 nights there and intend to go back in the near future.

We recently returned from a 10 day trip to Nova Scotia where we drove almost the entire perimeter of Nova Scotia. One of the true highlights of this trip was our three night stay at Seascape Coastal Retreat in Ingonish. These relatively new ten cottages (5 years old) all have waterfront views from a picture window and covered deck. The interiors are all the same--cute and very comfortable with little fireplaces, jacuzzi tubs, fridge and microwave. The beds are above average with good bedding and are most comfortable. It was so nice to come home after a full day, start a cozy fire, enjoy a glass of wine with the daily hors d's provided by management and stare out at the water. It just renews one's soul! A full and delicious breakfast is provided each morning (included) in the dining room with sweeping ocean views. They only serve breakfast to their guests. Their food is more than above average. The chef/owner is French trained and my seafood crepe at dinner was nothing less than sensational. Even if you are not lucky enough to stay here do stop in for a meal-you won't be disappointed. The location is great for exploring the Cabot Trail and surroundings. Keltic Lodge is visible across the water from SCR as well as the Highlands Golf Course. My husband loved it and said if you are into golf this is a course not to miss. We do not recommend the Zodiac Whale Watching trip in Ingonish but I would say try the ones on the Bay of St Lawrence or Pleasant Bay. Check out Neil's Harbor and have some fresh fish for lunch at the Chowder House there. The only thing wrong with our stay here was that it was not long enough!! While these cottages were not necessarily designed for small children it is just a perfect place for couples of all ages-private, quiet and beautiful. Yes we highly recommend the Seascape Coastal Retreat in Ingonish!

Like a number of previous reviewers, we ended up concluding that this was the best accomodation of our nearly two-week vacation in Nova Scotia. There are (I think) nine cottages on this property, but they're well sited and give you a feeling of maximum privacy. The cottages take full advantage of the bay view; each has a large picture window and deck. The whole place looks newly built, so everything is still fresh -- no tired-looking plumbing fixtures or worn carpets, which we experienced in some places we stayed. The cottages are cleaned daily.

Across the bay is the famous Keltic Lodge. We had drinks there one night, and the restaurants looked interesting. But I think the Seascape gets more light, and we were very happy with our meals. Breakfasts (included in the price) were varied and very filling, and the dinners were delicious.

It's true that the beach directly below the cottages is rocky, but a short walk takes you to a large sandy area. And if you drive about 7 kilometers toward the Keltic Lodge, there's an absolutely wonderful powdery beach.

The owners have really put a lot of work on this property. They even managed to coax an English-style garden out of what once was scrubland! Maybe we were just lucky with the perfect weather, but we adored Ingonish and the Seascape. It will be the first place we book when we return.

We stayed here for about half of our honeymoon trip to Nova Scotia- 5 nights. We loved having a separate little cottage, complete with picture window and porch facing the bay, whirlpool tub, mini fridge/ microwave. The full, sit-down breakfast that was included was delicious and a nice touch, as were the seafood hors d'ouvres waiting in our cottage when we returned each night. Overall we felt just slightly pampered, in a very hands-off way, which was perfect.

We also took advantage of the wonderful restaurant onsite for dinner one night, and it was absolutely delicious. We also used the kayaks (available free of charge, as are bikes) in the bay, and had a great time- my first time kayaking. The location was very convnenient, at the start of the east end of the highlands national park, and just over an hour from Baddeck.

Highly recommended!

We stayed here for 4 nights in early July. We think Seascape actually sells itself short on its brochure, although it overstates a few things too.

We thoroughly enjoyed Seascape, the cottages really are lovely and extremely well kept. The bedroom is small, but very functional with a full dresser, 2 nightstands, and closet. The living room is tiny, but contains a lot: sleeper sofa, mini recliner, mini fireplace, tv with satellite and VCR, microwave, wine glasses, napkins, plates and silverware. Greatly appreciated. There's even a bar sink with dish soap and two bar stools. And the big windows deliver a fantastic view of a bay of the ocean and mountains. You can also see the Keltic Lodge. I even spotted an eagle flying by the window. and the moon on the water.. fantastic! We also took advantage of the kayaks at the retreat. The porch has a railing and two nicely sized Adirondack Chairs. We very comfortably had dinner out on the porch one night just sitting in the chairs.

One night it felt like we were the only ones there and that seems a shame. The rooms are really the nicest we spotted in the area. We paid $209/night including full cooked breakfast.

The appetizers delivered to the room were a great touch. Every day between 4-6 they would show up. Or they'd be in our fridge when we got back later that night. The food at the retreat was also excellent. Every breakfast was tasty and my husband identified his shrimp dish (the chef's specialty) as one of his favorite meals of our trip. I thoroughly enjoyed my crab legs.... but the real treat for me was dessert. They had the creamiest dark chocolate torte. wonderful. Just FYI all area Dining spots all seem to close around 9pm.

The things we'd recommend changing are very minor. 1) the fireplace isn't really a traditional fireplace, it's one of those standalone stoves, very small, and cute, but it doesn't really meet my expectations of a fireplace. Although there is a picture of it on the website now. 2) the brochure said something about sandy beach. well it is the rockiest beach I've ever been on. and you can climb over a lot of rocks and get to some small sandy spots, and it's still great. but I think they will probably remove sandy beach from future advertisements. 3) They should really consider buidling a storage space for the kayaks at the bottom of the path. Trudging the kayaks up and down the path and over the rocks was much more trouble than paddling against any tough currents on the water. 4) the place does not offer internet access and in a town where the public access library is closed all day Sunday and Monday, we actually got into trouble, needing to access the internet and being unable to find any.

Overall, we think this tiny resort's reputation is going to grow, and it will soon become necessary to reserve well in advance. For now it's definitely a place we'd spend our nights when we come back to Ingonish.

We have just returned from our trip to Cape Breton and one of our favorite places to stay was the Seascape Coastal Retreat in Ingonish. Our cottage was lovely and incredibly clean and cozy. Each cottage has a large picture window with a beautiful view overlooking the bay. Seagulls fly by often adding to the already peaceful scene. There is a small hiking path near the cottages that leads down to the rocky beach surrounded by the bay.

Breakfast is included in the price of the cottage, which is convenient as well as delicious. The hostess, Julie, is incredibly friendly and helpful. . .and helped to make our stay very pleasant and relaxing.

We had dinner there one of the three nights we stayed in Ingonish and, in retrospect, I wish we had eaten there every night. It was the most delicious meal we had during our 9-day trip. And the dining room is surrounding by picture windows overlooking the bay and ocean headlands and the room itself is partly lit by candlelight. . .very enjoyable! The service, again, was very friendly. . providing for a very relaxed and special dining experience.

Can't recommend Seascape enough!
