“Lantern Hill & Hollow was the High Point of our N.S. Trip!”
Reviewed August 13, 2012

Originally drawn to the Ingonish area because of the Keltic Lodge, we opted for Lantern Hill & Hollow because its rate structure better suited our family's needs (traveling with our teenage daughter and son, we needed two rooms). What an incredibly fortuitous decision. We absolutely loved Lantern Hill & Hollow. Rather than staying majestically above all of the wonderful things Ingonish offers, we found ourselves right in the middle of all its beauty. Our cottage (the Daydreamer), which was 30 feet from the beach, was 100% clean and very comfortable. The view out the front door of our cottage was amazing. I fell asleep at night to waves lightly crashing ashore. Sharon was a wonderful host and provided great recommendations for restaurants and things to do in the area, as well as in other parts of Nova Scotia to which we were traveling. Our beach bonfire will be a lifelong family memory. We'll definitely visit Lantern Hill & Hollow again!

Room Tip: All the cottages are wonderful, but choose one closest to the beach.

Unfortunately due to time restraints we only had one night but we loved every second of it. The view was stunning. The cottage was meticulously clean and had every item for your stay that you might need. We would highly recommend this lovely location.

As a city guy, visiting the edges of the country, I had to get used to the fact that things are a lot smaller outside of the city. The location was incredible. We were lucky enough to stay in the 2 bedroom unit right beside the beach. Could hear the water all night long.
The cottage was simple, with the everyday basics required. It was clean, but nothing spectacular. TV, Sofas, and all. Got in a bit late, and wished we were able to spend some more time sitting on the beach, or lighting a lil campfire at night.

We spent three nights here and could have stayed longer. The setting is really relaxing and feels super special. The only downside is that your neighbors are pretty close to you. If they are quiet, no big deal. If they are a family of 6 adults and a baby....well, it's not as relaxing. Sharon was great--helpful and full of knowledge but not in our business and present.

Room Tip: Splurge and get a cottage.

This place has everything going for it, but there are some problems. The lady that runs the place is not very friendly at all. I expected a better reception at almost $200 a night.
The property is really nice and well maintained. The cottage we rented was clean for the most part. It was disabled-friendly, which is great, but the shower base was flush with the floor which caused a lot of water to leak out of the shower. It was a mess to clean up. This could easily be fixed by having the shower on a slight slope, so the water stays in.
Finally, the bed was not comfortable.

We could not in all of America have found a more perfect place to spend time reviewing and relishing our fifty years of marriage than at. Lantern Hill and Hollow. Now six years later, as we contemplate our move to the CA desert, we return to this beautifully meshed land with sea, in such an idyllic setting on Cape Bretton Island, still maintained impeccably, by Sharon, a woman full of charm and grace and someone who is a marvelous example of what good stewardship is all about.

We thought we came this time, to revisit our favorite spot on the East coast of America before we leave for the west and after only minutes, we realize our determination to is to return on an annual basis from across the continent as long as our life makes it possible. Everything about Lantern Hill and Hollow restores one's soul.

We had originally booked a room in the inn, but Sharon offered to upgrade us to a one bedroom cottage. Upon our arrival, she graciously upgraded us again to No. 1, which is a two-bedroom cottage directly on the water. It was just wonderful. The cottages are very comfortable, clean, and well-supplied. A full kitchen gives you the option of dining in or eating out. We had a drink on the oceanside deck under the stars. It just doesn't get any better than this. Unfortunately, we were only staying one night. We just hated to leave the screnery and peaceful location. We could have stayed a month!

Room Tip: No. 1 cottage is perfect.
