“Unbelievable view”
Reviewed August 27, 2012

My adult children woke up just as we were driving into the hotel - they were surpised at how nice it looked from the outside. First, I would probably have rated the hotel as a "4" but the view alone is worth a "5". The room itself was fine - a queen bed and a sofa bed. Not a lot of room and the sofa bed was not particularly comfortable. However, for $5 we could do our wash which was very nice late in the trip! It does appear that there has been more attention paid to the outside appearance and the common areas than the rooms. To be sure, there was nothing wrong with the room - it just appeared more basic than what I expected given the appearance of the other areas. Breakfast was good, not great. However, just being able to sit on the porch and look at the view would be enough for me to return here. I saved $25 by taking a room looking away from the water - would definitely save the money and just sit on the porch! Not sure about smoked salmon and pastried - didn't see those at our breakfast.

Landed in Ingonish, made a call to the reservations line and they informed us that this was the ONLY place in Ingo that had a room left.. so we took it. Bad idea. We get there and right off the bat there's a mix up with our room, and we got one smaller than expected. $160 a night and all it had was a double bed, pull out couch, tv and table. No coffee pots, utensils, pen, paper, nothing. So it was getting kind of dark so we figured instead of driving around trying to find somewhere to eat, that we'd just eat supper at the restaurant. Again, bad idea! Took almost an hour for the woman to even TAKE our order, then another hour for our food to arrive. We had a 6 year old with us, and her burger finally comes out and we cut it in half and it was all pink on the inside. Also they informed us that they didn't have a deep fryer (even though the kids menu says each meal comes with fries), so instead of fries they gave her a handful of STALE potato chips. After we sent back the burger, all they did was throw the pieces back on for a minute and sent it back, hard as a rock! Not even edible. Our beef tenderloin was ok, but you could tell it was frozen for months and months before they cooked it. This "meal" came to almost $90!!!! Ridiculous! Oh and I didn't even mention the rolls they gave us while we were waiting for the meal.. Hard as rocks and tasted like cardboard, the only good part was the butter. And to be honest, I think our waitress may have been drunk. The only good thing about our room was the bed was comfy. The room was tiny too. Now we know, never to go back there, or to show up and stay in the last place in Ingonish! I understand why it was the last place to be rented.

Room Tip: I guess a room at the back would be better, the only view we had was of the parking lot!

The hotel was decent and had a nice room. Nothing too fancy but we just came to sleep. It was clean, comfortable, and well priced. The best thing about this place is the ocean view from the outdoor breakfast patio. Absolutely breathtaking! The server was also very attentive, filling our coffees right away and bringing anything we needed.

Beautiful location with outstanding view of Ingonish. Great back deck.

Room was disappointing, downstairs in basement. Felt like typical, basement bedroom in someone's home. For the price, we have stayed in much nicer B&B's in Nova Scotia.
Lobby/breakfast room busy and noisy.

Room Tip: Don't chose the basement

You are directly on the Cabot Trail, just south of the town of Inginosh. Helpful front desk that recommended a place for us to whale watch. Typical continental breakfast plus fresh fruit and ham. Gorgeous balcony looking out over the water and headland. Our room #2 was next to reception and the kitchen, which meant we heard noise early in the morning. Overall, a decent stay. No phone in the room, but they let us borrow the hall line. Many small gnats were found in the room. A/C units taped into the windows.

We spent three nights here recently and were very pleased. The rooms were smallish, but very clean and charming. The bed was very comfortable. We had a corner non ocean view room, which had a view of the hills out one window. The non corner rooms might feel a bit less inviting. The view is really spectacular. We had breakfast on the deck and a drink in the early evening on the lawn. The restaurant was really excellent, and the breakfast was quite good. It was yoghurt, fruit, breakfast meats, smoked salmon, toast and pastries. Everything was quite nice quality.

Room Tip: corner ocean view would be primo

We stayed in May which is out of season and we were the only ones staying the night. But still Kim offered to cook us an evening meal but we went to the take away instead but this is a good 15 minutes drive away and there is only one shop in the area too. The weather was awful during our stay so we arrived much earlier than we wanted so we spent the evening sat in the bar area watching tv. Kim made sure we were stocked up with beer and even bought us a couple. The room was nice and comfortable with a good view of the sea (when we could see it through the cloud.) We still had breakfast cooked for us in the morning which was nice as it was only us and Kim made a few phone calls to check what the weather was like on the trail as we were unsure where to go and what to do in the rain and fog.
Some other hotels in the area could learn from this hotel that just because your not very busy people have still paid to stay and people still need to eat what ever time of year it is. Thank you Kim for a great stay.
