“Great last-minute find!”
Reviewed October 12, 2008

My husband & I stayed at the Water's Edge and really enjoyed our stay. It's not a B&B, so it should not be listed as such on Tripadvisor. It's an Inn - so you are not forced to mingle with guests or innkeepers. We loved this fact. :)

We called 2 days before we arrived to see if they had availability and we were placed in Room 3 (with a Queen Bed). I was very surprised at the quality of the room. The photos on their website do not do the rooms justice. The room was very tasteful, super clean and had a very new feeling. It wasn't large but it was very comfortable, and the mini-fridge & coffee maker was nice. I was very impressed with the decor - think current "Country Living". The bed was GREAT and we really liked our little room.

The Inn is right across from the harbor, with great views from some of the rooms (but not from ours) - and only a short walk to all the shops & restaurants in town. The inn has a GREAT location.

The gallery on-site had some wonderful local artists - and the cafe had a very YUMMY food. EAT THE CHOWDER - it's why you came to Nova Scotia! :)

It was a last-minute trip to Cape Breton for us, but if we get the chance to go back we would definitely stay at The Water's Edge again.

The Water's Edge Inn was a great place to stay. Above a gallery with lots of peace and quiet, beautiful views of the harbor from the balcony and easy walking access to the town, shopping and restaurants. The Inn's restaurant was also very good although it has a limited menu

Just stayed for 2 nights at the Water's Edge Inn. Our room was very spacious, spotlessly clean, with an excellent bathroom and the bed was fantastic. We were in room 6, without a view, and it was $140 - the rooms with a view are more expensive. Breakfast is not included. The location is perfect for exploring Baddeck on foot (it's a very small town), and we loved the chowder at the cafe - just delicious. We enjoyed being so close to the water. We also enjoyed the fact that it is not a B & B - after staying in many people's homes, this inn was a rather welcome change.

  • Liked — Spacious rooms
  • Disliked — Felt it was priced a bit high, by comparison to other places in the area, but we have no complaints

Perfect setting just across a small road from the harbor. Our big window framed a classic harbor view. Room itself was large and comfortable, and the porch was a welcome extra. Choose a room on the harbor side. 1 and 2 have covered porches, good in case it rains. Downstairs cafe is also excellent. Try the seafood chowder, a more refined version of the usual dish.

We stayed at the Water's Edge for two nights. The rooms very, very nice: well decorated, private, comfortable beds, water front views clean baths etc. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food in the cafe downstairs was a nice change from the typical Nova Scotia fare. I would strongly recommend.

Two notes:
-Breakfast is not included with the room, and must be special ordered the night before. All they serve are waffles, and they'll run you $9 each.
-Avoid Room Six. It faces away from the cove and a rather noisy kitchen fan exhaust runs by the window.

We had already spent three nights in Baddeck and wanted to spend another, but our hotel had no availability. So we spent the extra night at the Water's Edge, in room #1, and we were very glad that we did. The room was large and beautifully furnished, with a spacious bathroom that included a soaking tub, luxuorius linens, and plenty of counter space. Everything was new and clean, and it was air conditioned. (Don't let anyone tell you that you don't need air conditioning on Cape Breton; we used ours.) We had a lovely view of the water from both our window and our balcony, and we spent a couple of relaxing hours on the balcony watching the activity in the harbor. The Bell Museum, as well as all other attractions, are within walking distance. We had lunch at the Cafe, and it was excellent. Their seafood chowder is delicious! We did not have dinner, as the lunch and dinner menu were the same, and it was light fare. We thought the room rates were in line with what was offered. If we return to Baddeck, we'll call the Water's Edge first for reservations.

  • Liked — The beautifully decorated room with a water view from the balcony
  • Disliked — Wish the restaurant served dinners as well as light fare

The Water's Edge Inn is conveniently located on the Baddeck waterfront just a block or two from downtown and very near the Bell museum. Our room was nicely decorated, good sized and very comfortable. We enjoyed sitting on our deck overlooking the Baddeck waterfront. The Inn website is helpful and accurate. The staff at both the Inn and the adjoining restaurant are extremely helpful and warm. The restaurant has a limited nighttime menu, but you will get no better food in Baddeck --- sandwiches/salads, and the like, with a gourmet touch. The Water's Edge Inn is a great choice to make in Baddeck.
