“Ambience built on hospitality”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

We stayed at The Water's Edge with another couple as part of our annual trip to Cape Breton for the International Celtic Colours Festival. This small hotel is beautifully located on the water's edge of the Bras d'Or Lakes. It has an intimate gallery featuring works for sale by Maritimes artists, which is fun to browse even if you are not interested in buying.

Each of our rooms had a balcony and lovely view of the water, literally a stone's throw away. While we had an excellent bed and clean accommodation, a must for us now, what made our visit special was the friendliness and hospitality of the staff. Camilla welcomed us at check in, passed on information for a good choice of restaurant and presided over a delicious breakfast of homemade muffins, bread and waffles.

While Nova Scotia is known for its friendliness and hospitality, The Water's Edge epitomizes this in providing an experience for its guests that we think is unique.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the lakes.

My wife and I just spent a couple of days in Baddeck and were lucky to get a room at Water's Edge, Rm. 5, and were very happy with our accommodations. Fantastic view and the room seemed like it was brand new. Our room had a nice deck which overlooked the bay and the Amoeba, which if you have the chance, make sure you take the scenic tour. We enjoyed the breakfast with it's yummy pastries, waffles, fresh fruit, and etc.. We will be back!

Room Tip: Grab rm. 5 if you can

Very helpful staff and friendly. Nice breakfast including home baking and ample food to start the day. Had few wifi problems but they corrected this after letting them know. Very clean room - the room at back of property is not very big and if larger waterfront facing room was available, we would have preferred the extra size - still, room was very clean and comfortable. Th elocation is perfect close to waterfront and main street with its vafrious shops and restaurants. Great place to stay!

Room Tip: waterfront facing rooms probably worth the extra money if you can afford it.

Enjoyed our stay at Waters Edge. Room was well appointed, large, very clean, and bed was super comfortable. We had a porch that faced the lake, which is directly across the street. The gallery, which is part of the inn, has the best offerings of local artists we have seen. Location is great, you can walk the main street or sit by the water. Only wish the breakfast offerings were better. Waffles were good, but other items could have been better. Staff was friendly and very helpful.

Room Tip: Pick a room facing the lake.

The rooms at the Waters Edge a spacious and modern with balconies overlooking the lake. Staff are helpful and the art gallery / crafts store on the ground floor is worth a wander. The homemade breakfast is tasty if limited. Good for couples wanting a comfy stay.

I'm sitting on our deck at the Water's Edge Inn, looking at boats bobbing in the harbor, as the sun sets on our last night here. It's been a wonderful five days in Baddeck, highly due to having the luck to find this bit of heavenly lodging. Jeremy greeted us with his friendly manner when we arrived, and Mairi has hosted us each morning at breakfast - both are vey good representatives of the area.

Our room is a good size, very comfortable, with a great bed, nice shower (and tub), and that deck that faces the water. The breakfast room is part of the art gallery, so you get to start the morning surrounded by colorful artwork, and greeted by the cheerful Mairi.

We chose to plant ourselves down in one spot, as we did the usual tourist bits around the area - and it has worked out very well. In driving around to see various sites on the island, we saw nothing that came close to having the charm, and convenience, of this inn. I recommend it highly, and should we return, it would definitely be our first choice of lodging.

Room Tip: We had room 4, one of two facing the harbor on the top floor - out of six rooms, four have views to...

We cannot say enough good about our stay here at The Water's Edge Inn in Baddeck. A must stay location. Situated directly across from the warf and room #5 (booked due to a review we read on TripAdvisor) on the third floor had a spectacular view. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Warmly welcomed and given great recommendations (Bell Buoy Restaurant and Lynwood). The evening entertainment at the Parish was great - fiddling and guitar the evening we were there. Front row seats - we reserved and indicated we were staying at The Water's Edge and so we are not sure if that was the success of our front row seats but recommend you take it in. Great location to all shops and restuarants all in walking distance. The breakfast was really good (recommend the waffles) and the local breads are delicious. The sailing tour was spectacular and we would recommend it. Goes 4 times a day. Just sign up near the end of the warf - $25 per person (adult). Camilla was so friendly and warm and someone you could talk to for hours. Baddeck is a spectacular place to see and don't forget to go to the Alexander Graham Bell museum. What an amazing man! Recommend driving to Glace Bay to the Miner's Museum - was worth the trip.

Room Tip: Room #5 best view.
