We enjoyed the Dunlop Inn; the beds were quite comfy and the location was terrific. As others have declared, you can't beat the deck overlooking the lake and it was lovely to have access to coffee early in the morning (first person up pushes the already set up coffee maker) It was almost like staying in Grandma's house. And speaking of Grandma's house, the large parlour sitting room downstairs had an "old" smell to it. It didn't bother my husband, but it put me off of sitting in there to read. The sunroom with a view of the lake was delightful however.

The housekeeper Chris kept on her toes keeping rooms made up promptly, dishes washed and breakfast set out.

Also note that the Spinnaker room has the bathroom across the hall, and although it was a private bathroom only for that particular room, the price is the SAME for the Lighthouse Room which had bathroom ensuite AND a beautiful lake view.

Dunlop Inn felt like staying at a friend's cottage rather than a commercial establishment. Aside from the wonderful Chris getting coffee and breakfast ready in the morning (a very simple continental breakfast), you'll only see fellow guests around the house. All administration is handled at the Telegraph Inn up the hill.

My favourite part of our stay was the small dock and beach overlooking Bras d'Or lake, where you can watch crabs, flounder, skate and jellyfish duking it out from the comfort of your adirondack chair.

It's central to everything in Baddeck, which is in turn central to Cape Breton. The rooms lack TVs, which is okay if you're out on the trail, but noticable when you're stuck inside on a rainy day. Tall or wide people, beware the very tiny shower in the lighthouse room.

What a great stay! The location was Formidable, sitting on the dock in colorful chairs , watching the boats and beautiful Cape Breton landscape. The peaceful surroundings, walking distance to everything in this quaint town, the great deck in the sun or the sunroom in the rain - this inn offered the perfect spot to stop and enjoy CB. Wireless internet was a bonus, even when trying to escape the urge to connect with office /home. The inn is impeccable and decorated with taste. This was just what I needed - peaceful, relaxing, totally enjoyable. The Dunlop Inn will certainly have me as a guest again.

We recently stayed at the Dunlop Inn for 3 nights. It is so convenient to everything on Cape Breton that you can use this inn for several nights and visit a different place every day. Several good restaurants, shops, and the Alexander Graham Bell Museum are within walking distance. It is also next to the city pier and that is convenient for boat rides. The view from the deck on the back of the house is magnificient with the lighthouse and sailing boats.
Our room was very comfortable and clean.
The breakfast was a help yourself buffet, but included fruit, cereal, homemade bread for toasting, orange juice, and coffee or tea. It was available anytime after 6 am which is great for follks who want to get an early start to head out to the Cabot Trail or other sights.
We had thought about driving to Louisbourg one day but decided that the inn was so pleasant we would hang out in Baddeck all day and take in a boat ride on the Amoeba when we weren't enjoying the chairs and views on the deck.

Although tastelfully decorated and a comfortable Inn - the best part of this find was the dock! Whether having your morning coffee or sipping an evening's glass of wine - it can't be enjoyed more than sitting in one of those colorful adirondack chairs on the dock overlooking the white and red lighthouse across the water. Sitting there watching sailboats silently slipping through the water is truly mesmerizing! If you don't like the hot sunlight, then enjoy the shade under one of the very old large trees! This is a place where memories are made!

Over the past few summers I have had occassion to stay at the Dunlop Inn which feels like a "maritime"home. A 5 bedroom Inn with private baths , the interior decor reflects casual elegance with a bit of sea side charm. Guests were free to sit in a commom living room, kitchen or sunroom but the best room to relax with a glass of wine and capture the views iwas on the dock overlooking the Bras'Dor Lakes. I thought the sailboats and sunsets over the Lighthouse were most memorable. This is a small vacation town with golfing, sailing, interesting Alexander Graham Bell museum, hiking, lobster dinners and local celtic music. The great sleeps, privacy and time for quiet contemplation made this Inn a special experience.
