“Great place to stay! Home away from home”
Reviewed June 20, 2012

We had originally booked the MacRae house for a group of 6 adults. Something happened to the MacRae house the last minute and we were switched to cabin 33 and motel room 31. Cabin 33 is a cozy little place with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, full kitchen, and a living room. We loved cabin 33! It was clean and equipped everything you would ever need. Pots, pans, plates, cutlery, coffee maker, and more! It was truly a home away from home. We enjoyed making breakfast in the cabin in the morning. Our motel room was clean and comfortable. The only downside is that shampoo is not provided but it's not a big deal at all (we usually bring our own). We also had dinner there one night and the food was great! Fresh seafood, great portion, and very reasonably priced. The hotel is conveniently located on the main street, within walking distance to attractions like Alexander Graham Bell Museum and the boardwalk. It is also super close to the entrance of Cabot Trail. We would definitely recommend this place to others traveling to Cape Breton.

We stayed three nights and the accommodations were extremely satisfactory. We would definitely recommend this hotel to others. Our host, Shawn Dunlop, was very personable and helpful. He described the history of the hotel and provided valuable guidance to make the most of our visit. We stayed in one of the cottages behind the hotel. It had been renovated recently and other units are being upgraded as well. The hotel exterior needs some paint and other routine maintenance, but I believe that is planned. We were early in the season, so the dining facilities were not in full operation. This did not detract from our visit, but it does limit our complete assessment. In our view, this is excellent value for the price. If returning to Badeck, we would stay here again.

We stayed in room #32 of the motel behind the historic Inn. Our room was spacious and comfortable. We stayed an additional day because the room was clean and comfortable and the location enabled us to park the car and walk to the restaurants, grocery, laundromat, and town's attractions.

I was in Baddeck for Queen Victoria long week-end and stayed at the Telegraph House.
Although I was a bit off season they went out of their way to make everything happen for me and made my stay in Cape Breton a success.
The main lodge is a splendid victorian building and has great atmosphere, my room was spacious and decorated '' epoque'', I spent 4 nights there and was delighted with the true and warm hospitality.
Baddeck is a beautiful place and the people are wonderful,
Don' t miss it and stay at the Telegraph House

My wife and I loved Cape Breton and especially the Telegraph House. The main house is classy and historic, the cabins clean, cute and reasonably priced. We stayed at the House for the Lobster and Mussel Supper which was AMAZING!!!!(and only $20 bucks). But most important to us was the genuine warmth and hospitality of the staff. If we ever get the opportunity to return to Cape Breton we will definately be spending some time at the Telegraph House.

Whilst the accommodation itself was reasonably good I was bitterly disappointed by the cost. We had researched the information before our holiday and had used the recommended and supposedly most popular guide - Doers and Dreamers - that is provided by the tourist board. In this the prices shown were $75 - 120 and yet when we enquired (mid September) we were told that prices actually started from $120.00 and we ended up paying $130.00 for our accommodation. No explanation was given for the difference shown in the Doers and Dreamers and so we can only assume that the owners are quite happy to mislead visitors to get them "in the door".
We had been on the road for 5 hours before getting to Baddeck which is why we decided to stay , had the situation been different we would looked for alternative accommodation.
This was the only instance of this practice that we found in the fortnight that we were in Nova Scotia and would recommend the Doers and Dreamers guide to any prospective visitors but also wanted to alert them to the "sharp practice" of this particular hotel.
