“Best stay in Cape Breton”
Reviewed July 23, 2011

We stayed in room 4 and it was quiet, large, comfortable & wonderfully decorated. Plus it was reasonably priced. Sandra, the owner was very helpful. Breakfast is deluxe continental. Very adequate. It is a couple of nlocks fr downtown ao you can walk to restaurants, etc. Of all the places we stayed in Cape Breton this was the best.

If the option were available, I'd probably choose 3.5 circles. We arrived in Baddeck late on a Tuesday without reservations. We had done some research on the area, but unsure where we would actually end up decided to wing it.

Upon arrival, most of the accomodation choices had signs that said "No" in front of the word, "Vacancy." Rather than continue to drive, we looked for a place we could use our iPod and Laptop and happened upon the public library. We browsed the TripAdvisor site and gave the High Street Inn a call. They had a room, and we took it.

The Inn is at the top of the hill near the center of town. It appears to be a converted house with a couple of additional buildings. There are numerous children's playthings in the yard.

Our room was on the second floor of the main house, up a moderately steep and winding set of external stairs. We opened the private entrance to find a nicely decorated, charming room with gleeming floors, a king-size bed, a sitting area, and a fire place. Quite lovely and inviting.

Our host gave us a tour of the breakfast area, just downstairs, and advised that there would be breads, pastries, cereals, etc. along with a hot creation from the kitchen in the morning. The next morning we did find multiple breads, cream cheese, a butter-like spread, and jams and jellies. Unfortunately, we didn't find the hot creation.

Our host recommended the Telegraph House B&B for dinner, and that was a lovely place to dine.

Our concerns about the High Street Inn were that the floor seemed to creak a lot when we walked, leaving us to wonder if we were bothering other guests. Although it was a chilly day, we also found it hard to cool our room down, even with the windows open. And when we first visited the dining room, I got the distinct impression that was a litter box near.

All and all we enjoyed our stay. It was a bit more expensive than some other places we stayed on this trip and a little cheaper than others.

We stayed here at the beginning of July and had a wonderful time. Sandra and her family are gracious hosts and make you feel welcome. The room was extra clean and beautifully designed and decorated. The breakfast every morning was wonderful and the coffee was extra good. If you’re looking to explore all of Cape Breton, Baddeck is the place to stay. You’re not too far from Sydney and Louisburg or the National Park for day trips. Thank you again Sandra for your hospitality and we hope to visit again!

We loved this inn! The rooms were even better than the website photos! The decor was beautiful, the rooms were meticulously clean with everything we needed (even a fridge in the room!), the beds were comfortable and the host was warm and welcoming. Our friends needed a wheelchair accessible room and though there was a step or 2 up to the breakfast room, their bed/sitting room was beautiful, spacious and accomodating. Fruit and yogurt was available for snacking and freshly baked scones for breakfast melted in your mouth. The inn was within easy walking distance of the main street with its restaurants and shops. We heard about a ceilidh concert just around the corner from the inn and we really enjoyed the excellent celtic fiddle music. We would all highly recommend this B & B!

Although this place looks plain on the outside, the room we stayed (suite#4) is nicely decorated, clean and very spacious. An easy drive to the main street, waterfront and the Alexander Graham Bell museum.

Based on our experience, the High Street Inn distinguishes itself in customer service & friendliness. The owner & asst manager were very gracious, accommodating & professional during our stay. Our room at this B&B had elegant decor with modern conveniences, plus it was extremely clean, comfortable & spacious. We discovered no other accommodations in Baddeck that compared to the High Street Inn in terms of customer service, the quality of the accommmodations, the convenient location & the value. My daughter & I really enjoyed our stay. This is the place to book if you are planning a visit to Cape Breton!
