Stayed here for 3 nights on a recent trip to the Maritimes. Good central location to see all of Cape Breton. The price was right and the cold breakfast was just fine to start the day. Nice grounds right on the lake. My only complaints were, as others have said it is very noisy...both the highway noise and the room to room noise. People tend to congregate outside the rooms on the parking lot side to socialize which results in noise and smoke coming through the windows. Also, advertised an outdoor pool but when we went to check it out, it wasn't operational and looked like it hadn't been for some time. that was disappointing as it was one of the perks.

Our room was clean and comfortable, pretty much what you'd expect (or hope for) in a motel. The view and setting was special though, so we were very happy with our choice. Breakfast was particularly good. The bread and baking from a local bakery were excellent, and the view over the lake from the breakfast room was wonderful. It was tempting to linger!

We were very impressed with this motel. We booked online sight unseen and hoped for the best as it was right on the highway. It wasn't expensive and included a breakfast each day. Since it was just the 2 of us (adults) we weren't concerned about amenities as we just wanted someplace to sleep near Baddeck for 3 nights. Well, we lucked out with the Trailsman. From the highway it looks like any motel, but when you go to the back, the property is expansive and backs right on to Bras D'or lake. It is beautiful here! We had a room at the back facing the lake. The rooms are very large (2 queen beds) and a large window to see the lake from. A very large bathroom and housekeeping was impeccable. The breakfasts in the motels dining room were amazing - bowls of fresh fruit, cut- up fruit and muffins and breads were from a local bakery and were whole grain and delicious. Several cereals, juice, coffee, tea, jams etc breakfast was served between 7 and 10 which was great for us as we are early risers. The rooms are completely sound proof and have concrete walls and floors and we never heard any noise whatsoever, just the sounds of birds and the seabreeze blowing on us each morning when we opened the door. The service, price and location are excellent! I highly recommend this motel. It is very close to Baddeck and the Cabot Trail. Rooms had fridges, microwaves and coffee makers as well as patio chairs and a gas BBQ outside the door. A great place to come back to at the end of a long day sightseeing and hiking.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the rooms facing the lake.

Stayed for the long weekend. The room was clean and well maintained, staff very friendly. Continental breakfast was very good; large dining room. Breakfast was toast, cereal, yogurt, fruit, coffee, tea, juices, muffins from a local bakery. It was well organized and we didn't have to get up too early to enjoy it! The only issue we had was with the shower; it seemed the hot water would run out half way through the shower and we would get a blast of cold water! Not a big deal though...no other issues and we enjoyed our stay. Only a few minutes to Baddeck and close to the Cabot Trail.

Room Tip: We were in a room close to the road and there was quite a bit of traffic late at night....it didn...

This charming motel is really clean and tidy. Well maintained. Don't be afraid of a motel. The mattresses provided a wonderful sleep. The motel also included one of the best continental breakfasts as it included homemade bread for toast, cottage cheese, cheddar cheese, bowl of apples, cereal, tea and yogurt. Our host was an elderly woman who was so kind and she explained they used to offer dinner but times have changed that. She was lovely and we told her how much we enjoyed our stay. Prices were reasonable and everyone was so kind and considerate.

Room Tip: Great place to sleep while driving the Cabot trail.

This is a good basic older roadside motel. It appears to be well maintained, the rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. Rooms have a great view of the lake. Staff members we met were all friendly and helpful and the continental breakfast was fine. The one drawback is the highway noise, but that wasn't too bad.
