This is one of the best restaurants on Cape Breton! When we lived in Sydney, we would go out there about once a month ... so delicious! Their bakery goods, their turkey dinner, and their pies are all delicious!

The food here is consistently very good, home style cooking.
Service and atmosphere are adequate. Excellent baked goods and desserts.
If you are going between 5-7pm during summer months make a reservation in order to avoid a 15-20 minute wait.

This is a popular place. We had to wait some time to get in. Many of the patrons seemed to know each other, so I took them to be locals or perhaps some had summer places nearby.
Our server was excellent, very attentive. Amazingly for a small place far from a city, Cedar House has a full "gluten free" menu. My wife, who is avoiding gluten, really appreciated that. The décor and seating are not fancy, but we don't seek "fine dining", just decent food at reasonable prices. Cedar House provides those. I had fish cakes & beans. I wouldn't rate either as outstanding. The beans were just ok. For me, the fish cakes had too little fish & too much filler. The rolls that came with my meal were undercooked & doughy on the inside. Everything was "just ok" & I didn't leave upset or angry, just expected a little better.

The menu was great. The homemade bread was delicious and the other baked goods looked delicious. We had lobster salad on homemade oatmeal bread and salad with a delious bacon dressings.

Excellent home made food. Best corn chowder and fish cakes anywhere. Family type restaurant. Pies are just like Mom used to make with mile high meringe. The chocolate cake with boiled icing is melt in your mouth. Never pass by without stopping in for pies, buscuits, cake and oatcakes. YUM! Really nice staff as well.
