We make several trips over to the Cedar House each year when we are summering at Marble Mountain, and we lay in a supply of their wonderful bread---whole wheat bread, cinnamon bread, oatmeal bread, light and delicate tea biscuits. Their strawberry/rhubarb pie is to die for. We also like their cinnamon rolls and their oat cakes.

Apart from the bakery, it's also a good place for a meal, especially breakfast. Their fish cakes, which they serve for breakfast as well as lunch or dinner, are exceptional. Or try the seafood chowder---very tasty.

The prices are reasonable, the staff attentive. It's one of our favorite places to eat in Cape Breton. If you are planning a trip around the Cabot Trail, take a short detour about fifteen minutes from Baddeck and over Kelly's Mountain across the Seal Island Bridge and there on your right is the Cedar House Bakery. You won't be disappointed.

Although not terribly fast and not terribly fancy, Cedar House offers an extensive menu and a lovely on-site bakery. More importantly, they have a full gluten-free menu!

We were hungry and not much was open around the trail on the Victoria Day weekend. Just before we would have gotten hazourdously close to settling for fast food, we made it to the Cedar House. A nice famly restaurant atmosphere, good food, efficient service and an in-house bakery for treats to take home.
I had the specialty; fish chowder and was quite satisfied
Very nice!

We were very dissappointed with the Cedar House Restaurant this long weekend in May. I ordered Vegetable Cream Soup and a turkey sandwich. The soup was a cream base (must be the same cream base they use for their Corn Chowder) with hard vegetables added to the cream base. It wasn't a soup that was simmering on the stove that's for sure. The cream base was tastey; however, you could clearly tell the vegetables were added to the base just before it was served. As I say, the vegetables were crunchy. The turkey sandwich was very thin. My sandwich had 2 very thin slices of turkey on it. My husband had fish cakes and beans. He said the fish cakes were delicious but the beans arrived in a very small dessert bowl. The other thing that made our experience dissapointing was the waitress. She was so unpleasant. She literally plunked the dishes on the table, no smiles, no pleasantries and when she gave us our bill -- it was just turned upside down and not a word. Very sad. I'll not go back and I won't recommend it that's for sure. Very dissappointing.
