We had an unforgettable experience here. Like others have said, Darcy is a great guy, very laid back and makes you feel at home in a place that is like no other. The views are unbeatable, we took a lot of pictures but it truly didn't capture what we saw there.

We stayed in room #2, which was perfect. We could here the rips all night long and you can see the tide going in and out. The room was clean as was our bathroom just across the way. The meals were a highlight as Darcy is quite the chef. The restaurant has great views too and is really cozy. I loved sitting by the fire, chatting with some of the other guests, who were fun and interesting, while watching the tide rise. This place should not be missed!

Room Tip: room# 2 has ocean views

This was an exceptional experience -- just perfection. The views are unparalleled, and Darcy and crew make you feel right at home. The food is delish and the rooms are simple and cozy. Yes, it's a hike (literally), but that shouldn't be any surprise if you just check the website and the plentiful signs. Best sunrise of my life!

We have been hoping to do sea kayaking in Advocate Harbour as we've heard lots of great things about the tour and Advocate, NS. However we would have to stay overnight to catch the early start to the tour. After numerous tries by e-mail and phone call to book accommodation at The Lighthouse of Cape d'Or, I still haven't gotten a response. Very disappointing.

As we drove down the long track to the lighthouse we were starting to wonder where we were going. But as we walked down the hill to the lighthouse and cottages and the view opened up it was definitely the place to be. The owner (Darcy) is a great host and a very good cook. The accommodation is spotlessly clean and comfortable and arranged around a central common room, giving it a bohemian and friendly feel. There is a little kitchenette for guests to use and as many books as you might want to read. The cottage is right next to a lighthouse, so when the fog comes in (which it does tend to do in Nova Scotia) you do hear the fog horn for as long as the fog is around. This does not diminish the experience at all, and in fact adds to the ambience. If you are interested in seeing the huge Bay of Fundy tides, going rockhounding on nearly empty beaches or watching deer or birds in the many local parks, this is the place to stay.

I suggest to anyone that you fast-forward through the very few adverse comments and rapidly decide whether this place is for you. OK, so you park at the top of a cliff and walk down a road suitable only for the light-keeper's 4-wheel drive vehicle, therefore just bring all you need for your brief stay in a small bag that is easy to carry. (If necessary the light-keeper will gladly give you a ride up/down.) Also, for the modest prices charged of course breakfast is not included.

The beauty and solitude of this place is a most memorable life time experience! In July '12 my wife and I were there for one day and were in the bedroom that included a private bathroom. The place is perfectly clean and the small common area included a great kitchenette.

Getting to know Darcy the-light-keeper is a treat, one can only ponder about one's own life choices compared to his most intriguing path to Cape d'Or. He is also a phenomenal cook! Great wine & beer were available.

PS- For our one-week tour of Nova Scotia we started with a visit to Hopewell Rocks to see the Bay of Fundi tides and visited Cape d'Or before driving toward Cape Breton.

This is an amazing location. The Views are stunning in the sunset, so make sure to take your camera! The inn keeper, Darcy, makes delicious food and is a great guy.The rooms are clean, but if you have to have internet, or cable, this is not the place for you! The house a great room for everyone to use. There is a walking path at the top of the hill that provides a great picture-taking opportunity. If you can't make it down the steep hill to get to it, you can call Darcy to pick you up in his SUV. Overall, it's a great experience. It's off the beaten path, but you'll be glad you came!

We started our 2 week Nova Scotia trip in this goregous lighthouse location and with a one night stay. Yes, you do need to hike down the hill to get to your destination, but we were prepared (we packed a separate bag for this location). The location is divine and just beautiful. The sleeping arrangements have a common room (couches/tv/small refrigerator/coffee pot) with separate bedrooms for the guests. It is humbly furnished and rustic and is an older facility. However, it was CLEAN which is criteria #1 for us. And the views from the common room is amazing. Darcy, the inn keeper was delightful and prepared our breakfasts with much thought and detail...and it was yummy. There is no internet service which was challenging for my internet tethered husband!

The lighthouse stay is an experience of adventure. We experienced the fog horn for a bit, but again, it's part of the adventure. If you are looking for the Marriot or even a Hampton Inn, this is not your place. If you are looking for a unique adventure, then I would highly recommend it.
