“The best start to learn more about historical Trinity”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

A must for everybody who wants to learn more about the history of this historic place!
Kevin Toope leads us around the town and explains the history of the town with still existing buildings and disappeared ones. Photos and texts illustrate how Trinity was in the past : fishery, commerce and all-day life.

“Kevin Brings Trinity's History to Life”
Reviewed September 29, 2013

Teacher and local resident Kevin Toope makes Trinity's history fun, personal and interesting. Walking the lanes and pathways of Trinity in conversation with him brings the lives, livelihoods and the lifestyles of the founders and settlers in the area to life. Kevin's engaging manner, family roots, and encyclopaedic local knowledge gives him the background and the experience that makes the two hour townsite walk a comfortable, thought provoking window on yesterday in this picturesque and historic Newfoundland fishing community. There are lots of personal anecdotes and asides and never a pause in the stories and insights into the maritime history of the area. And his insights and observations about the impact and implications of the cod moratorium offer a perspective and sobering glimpse into the future. It was a wonderfully narrated, morning walk in the fresh air and a very highly recommended part of our stay in the Trinity area.

“Reserve well in advance”
Reviewed September 8, 2013

This walking tour is a great way to get to know Trinity and its history. the actors are excellent and put on interesting vignettes at several locations in the town. Sneakers rather than sandals should be worn as many of the roads are required to be cinders or gravel in order to be historically accurate.

“Must do for Trinity Visitors”
Reviewed August 22, 2013

This is a wonderful tour (almost 3 hours) by teacher and local resident Kevin Toope. With his intimate knowledge and familial roots in Trinity, Kevin provides a delightful (and sometimes tragic) look into Newfoundland's past. I was impressed by his humanity, simplicity and empathy with the many immigrants that came and stayed in this wild, harsh, land. From the earliest Basque whalers in the 15th c to the indentured Irish, the British Poole merchants and migrant fisherman, this tour brought Trinity's maritime history to life. Kevin also compliments his narration with sobering facts of life in the 1700's. Personal asides of his own coming of age as the son of a fisherman and the devastating effects of the Cod Moratorium give the traveller an impressive insight of the past and future of this town. Highly recommended.

“Incredible value. This is a must do.”
Reviewed August 22, 2013

Kevin is a walking historian when it comes to Trinity. We were amazed by his in depth knowledge and the dynamic way he brought the history of this once bustling town to life throughout this 2-hour walk. Never a dull moment, including the audio clips of people recounting bits of history which give life to his stories. He kept the interest of our group, which ranged from 12 – 80 years of age, throughout the tour. Thanks so much for making Trinity so special and memorable!
