Our favourite accommodation in Gros Morne by far. We usual stayed here three-four nights to make some special hiking and canoe trips in Gros Morne National park and to fish the upper Humber river for one or two days. An excellent location in the centre of the park. The management is great, the rooms and beds are perfect but to have your ocean view you must book early and ask for an ocean view room. The food is excellent and there is some nice newfie life music a few times a week.

Clean & plenty of hot water. Restaurant could use some work, though... Caters to busloads of tourists. On-site tour booking facility, can provide good info on the boat tour.

Thanks for the feedback. Hope you had a great stay with us. Sorry if you missed the restaurant...2008 hours were 7am to 11am for breakfast...noon to 2pm for lunch and 5pm to 9pm for dinner...pretty standard. Hoping to be open straight through from 7am to 10pm for 2009. Thanks and please let us know if you are visiting again!

We stayed at the Ocean View for a night in mid-July. It's the only full service motel in Rocky Harbour and maybe the only full service motel on Newfoundland's West coast. Our room was quite serviceable, nothing special. Quite clean and quiet. We had WiFi and cable TV (about 32 channels). We did not have a harbor view, our room faced the back of the property. The motel is across the street from the harbor. A second story, harbor view room would have been preferable. I don't think noise from the road would be a problem. Rocky Harbour is off of the main highway 430. There is very little traffic in the village at night.

The Ocean View has a lounge and a restaurant, as well as a booking kiosk for Bon Tours. We did not try the restaurant. There is a small cafe (seasonal?) and a Pizza place both about a one minute walk away. The lounge is quite nice and friendly. They have a live band 3 or 4 times per week; mostly Newfie songs - quite enjoyable but a bit too loud for me. You can not hear the music from the guest rooms, though.

There is one other choice in Rocky Harbour, the Gros Marne Cabins. It was about a mile down the street from the Ocean View. Although we did not stay there, the pine cabins looked quite nice and modern. There were a couple pub/restaurants across the street. If the Ocean View was full, I would stay there.

This motel is ideally situated on the waterfront. The rooms were clean and comfortable with all the usual facilities. Did not use the restaurant. No problems with noise; worth asking for a waterfront room which has a nice balcony.

Overall, I wouldn't stay here again if I wanted a good night's sleep. I'd look for a B&B or another motel. If you like the food and music, sleep somewhere else and then just come for the food and music.

The Good: Great view and very conveniently located for Gros Morne Park. Food was decent. Room was on the large side. Wireless Internet.

Debatable: The music that people rave about is ok if you've never heard it before. Maybe I'm a bit jaded being from New York City, but the music was more like an ok lounge act and it got annoying quickly. But it's very subjective. A lot of people in the audience were obviously of a different opinion.

The Bad: The room was musty and a little worn. The water coming from the tap was brown. The bed was mushy and left my back in pain by morning. The walls were paper thin. We could hear neighboring rooms to either side quite clearly as well as the footsteps of the people above us. It was a noisy night. We could also hear the music from the bar. We were thankful when it ended around midnight.

Thanks for your honest review. We are new owners as of April of 2007 and have been upgrading all rooms with new paint, carpets, bedding, and decor since October 2007. We are adding silent floors and renovating the halls to include sound doors on either end. Also renovating lobby and lounge areas. Thanks for the constructive feedback.

We stayed here three nights. We hadn't booked and ended up in the suites as they were the only rooms available but rates were more than reasonable. My husband and I are English and our companions were Canadians. We had an ocean view in our very spacious room. The room was also very clean and well equipped. The food was good at the hotel and the staff were very helpful, even providing us with ice from the bar. We loved Friday night when Anchors Aweigh played traditional Newfoundland music to a packed room. It was a fun evening and everybody enjoyed themselves. There are also several shops near to the motel and a laundramat, plus other eating places if you fancy a change. I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Ocean View Motel.

The room was large and clean. There was a balcony, but no ocean view. Best to stress ahead of time that you want a room with a view of the harbour. If not, you’ll get a view of an alley, sheds, and a couple houses.

Once more, soda machines were out and ice non-existent as was in most of the places I stayed on the Viking Trail & in Labrador. However, there were places nearby to seek a cold soda. Many gift shops in the area. Some within a short walking distance.

The shoreline of the harbour is just across the road and down some steps.

The restaurant served up very good hot food. Although there weren’t numerous items on the menu, what was on the menu was actually prepared! Not “out-of-the-can” or some sort of microwave dinner as seemed to be the case on other parts of the Viking Trail! The seafood & pasta I had was just about the best actually prepared meal I had the whole trip next to the delicious burger I ate at the St. Anthony Airport lounge and the moose burger outside of Deer Lake at a gas station.
