A few week ago I was here for a conference. Everything was wonderful. I want to express a BIG thank you the the wonderful chef Shawn Avery. He was professional and his food was amazing. In addition to that, I am allergic to eggs and Shawn went out of his way to ensure I had an egg free meal that was amazing in every way. You have got to try his warm spinach salad... To die for!!! And his chicken soup is the best I've ever had.
The staff was friendly, helpful and overall, I would give this place an A+.
Thanks everyone!
I was in a newly renovated room, I hear you should ask for one!

We had requested a rm with 1 queen bed, non smoking, with air conditioning. We booked in advance and checked in early at 1145 am. Check doesn't start til 3. so we went for 9 hole golf on eagle creek while waiting.

We got to our room at 330, the room next to our non smoking room was a smoking room and the guests in that room had their door open so the hallway and of course our room smelled like smoke. That was complaint 1. Our Queen bed was a double size matress that was that old, worn out, and hard. The air conditioning was a escalating Fan in the corner of the room. There was construction on the outside, and there was scaffolding in front of our window so we couldn't have the curtains open. the night light by the bed wouldn't turn on and the chain lock on the door was snapped off. Should I keep going? Our one night stay costs over 200$, as soon as we seen our room we called the front desk to request a new room, but they said there were no more rooms. we kept checking back in with the front desk every hour to see if there was a different room but to no luck. We placed a full complaint at the front desk and asked to speak with a supervisor. they told us the manager would be in at 9am, the next day (check Out) we went back to the desk 4 times and stayed around until 315pm , the manager never did show. We filled out the comment card and emailed the manager. it has now been almost 3 weeks and another 2 emails and 2 phone calls have been made to the manager. and we have yet to hear a response.

We did however manage to see other queen rooms in the hotel on the 3rd floor, which were much better, with good matresses, real air conditioning, and did not smell. So that means there are some nice rooms.... but that just made our room and experience that much more unexceptable and frustrating, seeing that we booked and checked in earlier than that couple did.

I have tolerated several stays at this hotel over the years and each stay I've grown to hate the place more. The room I'm in tonight is the last straw.....I will not spend another dime staying at this hotel.....I'm above a cooking area and the room is not adequately ventilated. The greasy smoke from the below kitchen is unhealthy, stinky and uncomfortable. The paper-thin walls, the spider c/w cob-web in the corner of the bay window, the water damaged cottage cheese ceiling and the 1970 dormatory style bed and bedding is more than I care to subject myself to when travelling these days. No flat-screen TV either.....Just a small 19" that rests on the low chest of drawers positioned awkwardly at the foot of my bed and below eye level. I am tempted to take the bathroom door of the hinges for more convenient access to the bathroom sink.....squeezing in by the toilet to access the sink in a design flaw of every room I've ever had in this hotel. I would not recommend this hotel to my friends and please do not be fooled by the use of the word "resort" in their name....it can be misleading.....this place is a complete dump.

My husband and I stayed at the Terra Nova Golf and Resort for 1 night during our 1 week trip to Newfoundland in July to take advantage of their "stay and play" package, which gives each person 1 night, 1 dinner entree and 1 round of golf for $104.
This hotel is somewhat outdated with lack lustre services, but it is worth it to stay for the golf course. The hotel is also in the process of renovating and although we were at first checked into an older room with 2 double beds, when we asked for the King size bed that we thought we had reserved we were given a much newer (renovated) room. The room was renovated very tastefully, but with some design flaws (the air conditioner did not seem to work and the light switch cuts the power to the alarm clock every time you leave the room).
The staff are very nice, but could be more helpful. There was no orientation to the hotel on check in and we had to draw the information out of the woman working at the front desk, for example what amenities are available - there is tennis, a driving range, pool, cafe/pub downstairs and dining room upstairs, are reservations for dinner needed - yes, they are recommended, where is breakfast served - in the dining room, etc.
We also had to negotiate a later check out than noon given that we were teeing off at 8:15 am and were not sure if we would be back by noon.
Despite these minor irritations, we did really enjoy the golf course - it is beautiful and well maintained, and were glad we thought to ask for a different room as the renovated rooms are very nice and spacioius.

So at $300 per night, which includes a round of golf it could have been better. It was mid May and the weather was cool and damp so the resort was quiet. Of course we have to get a room above the kitchen hood vents so the constant fan noise was annoying. We were travelling around so only stayed one night but wouldn't have wanted to stay in that room another night.

Well, we decided to try something different at Terra Nova this Summer for a 5 day visit and Fall for a three day stay. We booked a chalet through the lodge instead of the Hotel and what a great choice it was. There we several of us to share the cost and it was pricier than the hotel, but you know what they say, you get what you pay for. $300 a night put us in a beautiful large private home with air conditioning, hardwood floors, full kitchen, patio with BBQ, 42" flat screen TV with 100 channels, extra bathrooms, comfortable beds, washer/dryer combo and even a dish washer. It was great. Very quiet and clean. Only a short 2 minute walk to the hotel pro shop, bar and pool area.

The golf course has made a wonderful recovery from the harsh winter and disappointing Spring conditions. They hosted the Provicial Amateur Championships in July and the course was in great condition, and the best news is that it stayed that way right through the rest of Summer and Fall. I was very impressed by the shape of the fairways and greens. Of course the beautiful vistas and the layout of the course always impress. The bunkers still need to be improved but they are getting there. The weather was perfect during both visits.

We did try the dining room at the Hotel on our most recent trip and the food was okay... and the service was very friendly.
The golf staff are great fun, full of small town charm and smiling faces.

By far the best course on the Island.

This property fit our needs perfectly as it was the right distance between St. Johns and our next destination to break up the drive. It also was one of the few hotels in Newfoundland with air conditioning which was an important consideration to us. The lodge has a nice fresh appearance with an attractive building and nice landscaping. Our rooms had a faint smell of cigaraette smoke despite being non-smoking but the desk clerk gave us some spray which was effective in eliminating the odor. Our beds were comfortable, and the view from our windows was beautiful as we could see out into the bay with mountains behind that. The pool area was inviting though we didn't take a dip. There are nice grounds for walking and we enjoyed a stroll out onto a dock extending into the lake behind the lodge. Golfers will love this property as it has a couple of outstanding looking courses...we were invited to take a peak and the trail to the course crosses a small bridge over a stream on the way to and from the course. The first tee offers a view of the bay and on the 18th hole, golfers tee off over a waterfall. Do note that the hotel restaurant is expensive and the town is really just a collection of maybe 100 small homes. We ended up eating sandwiches for dinner at a small takeout oriented cafe connected to a convenience store and gas station along the Trans Canada Highway. It was very clean and the waitress was very pleasant. It is the only alternative to the hotel dining room but was sufficient for a one night stay. We ate in the hotel dining room the next morning and found it adequate. We are glad we stayed at the Terra Nova Golf Resort .
