“Fabulous time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2014 via mobile

Our family took a week this summer and traveled the Northern Peninsula of Newfoundland, Canada. Our sight seeing was combined with a genuine effort to visit restaurants who serve the freshest fish.

We managed to find a number of very good restaurants, however the Anchor Cafe stood out above the rest. The Anchor Cafe is located directly across the road from the Port aux Choix fish plant, which by the way, does not take away from the experience. The waitresses were very quick, helpful, plesant, as well as understanding of any special requests. We unfortunately didn't get to meet the chef, but their ability and passion was evident in the food we ate. All the seafood was prepared perfectly, not over cooked. Many restaurants will charge a premium for fresh seafood, and overall the prices at the Anchor Cafe were were middle of the road. Not cheap, but not crazy. Great quality food.

Over all, I would highly recommend the Anchor Cafe as one of the must visit restaurants on the Northern Peninsula.

“It would have been "Good" if the prices were more reasonable.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2014

Actually the food was fine, not special, but tasty and filling enough. We had the chowder, a beef wrap, and a lasagna - I know, this place is for "seafood" but we just had too much lately, so, a chowder was what we wanted to try.

The prices were a bit high but since there were not many options in town, that was the reason.

“What a Gem !”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2014

The quality of our dinner matched any meal we have had anywhere in North America in the past five years. Our chowder was better than that at Legal Sea Food. Our entree of fresh scallops plus crispy salad was to die for and then fresh partridge berry pie, still warm from the oven completed a wonderful dining experience.

“Drop anchor here for a great meal!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 25, 2014 via mobile

We stopped here for lunch several days ago and we are still raving over it!

As the name would suggest, the speciality here is seafood. Our lively server said that their fish is sourced fresh from all over the province and that the shrimp come from across the street (you will notice a fish processing plant).

The shrimp were perhaps the best and sweetest we had ever eaten. They were fresh and sweet. I had a shrimp salad sandwich with lots of diced veggies and a bowl of chowder and it was outstanding.

My boyfriend had the pan fried cod sandwich with chowder and loved it.

The terrific food was highlighted even further by warm, attentive service.

We have recommended this restaurant to everyone we have met on the Northern peninsula. Yum!

Thank peculiah

“My first Moose Burger”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2014

Saw the signs on the road and decided to try it out. Good menu with plenty of choices. I decided to try a moose burger and wasn't disappointed. A good sized thick patty of meat that was very lean. I don't think I have ever had a burger so lean. Tasted great and much to my surprise it wasn't gamy at all. A good handful of delicious french fries made for a nice lunch.
