Description: We focus on organic , fresh and local cuisine.. nothing processed. We have vegetarian choices like butternut squash , sweet potato with fresh ginger, roasted root vegetable, wild mushroom and others, salad made with arugula and kale, stir fry's, pastas, etc. We serve everything from local (mussels ,snow crab, lobster, cod fish, scallops, shrimp, halibut, mackerel, capelin, calamari, etc) .Local lamb, Fresh chicken with bone in and skin on., grade A tenderloin beef, pork and so many more choices. We use the local berries that ground in the area for the desserts. We only open from Late May until Mid September because that is when the food we serve is Fresh and available. We prefer not to open after later because it would compromise the quality of what we are trying to achieve and prefer not to serve over process chemically altered food.

“Best restaurant in this Area”

The Norseman had a great reputation and we were not disappointed. There was a bearded guitar-playing singer who made the evening even more enjoyable. The chef was creative and knew his stuff. All in all, a great evening

“Nice setting and service, but not worth price”
Reviewed September 4, 2012

We had dinner at the Norseman Restaurant during our one week vacation to Newfoundland. The restaurant is beautiful and we were fortunate to have a table by the window. The service was excellent. But the food was the least enjoyable and most expensive meal we had and unfortunately I have to agree with the previous reviewer. Rubbery scallops and undercooked salmon were not what I would have expected in a restaurant that advertises itself as 'fine dining'.

“Great food!”

An amazing lunch after visiting the historic site. Warming and inviting, the food was great. Appetizers and dessert make the experience fulfilling.

“Nonsense.”
Reviewed September 1, 2012

I am from Newfoundland. We don't eat the over priced nonsense on their menu and if we did it would be ten times as much and cost a lot less. I recently travelled all the way across the island to see l'anse aux meadows and loved it. But going to this restaurant and paying 16$ for an infants size burger and a handful of lettuce almost ruined the whole trip for me. All I could do when I saw the burger was laugh. That being said, the service was nice. And the restaurant is a nice place. But none of that matters when the food is nonsense.

The burger that you ate was made with Elk meat and served with a mango chutney on a focaccia bun. The salad was made with arugula and goat cheese. All of these things are special order from our food distributor because you can not buy them in this area, hence $15 for this meal is very reasonably priced.

I checked out a few menus in St. John's and the cost of a regular beef burger and salad there is $16-$18.

Elk meat is quite expensively priced because it is wild game, where as beef is hormone induced and cheap.

“Great Location, Great Live Entertainment, & Good Food”
Reviewed August 31, 2012

We had both lunch and dinner at the restaurant, and this is a combined review. For lunch we had chowder and an elk burger. At dinner my wife had the arctic char and crab special, while I had the strip-loin steak. I found the chowder to average, and all consider the elk burger was OK but over priced. The special at dinner was very good, but the portion size was small for the price. The strip-loin was one of the best I have had in the maritimes, but certainly not up to Keg standards.

The entertainment was by a local Newfoundlander, Wade Hillier, who also poses as a Viking explorer at the L'anse aux Meadows display by day. He does a very entertaining mix of traditional Newfoundland music as well as some C&W, and folk. His music pulled the rating of the restaurant up to almost a 5 level. Ask when he his playing if you call for a reservation.
