“Great location and comfortable place to stay”
Reviewed August 6, 2012

The 'village' is very close to the L'Anse aux Meadows national historic site (almost across the road, but there is a long driveway into the park) and also close to Norstead, the recreated Viking village (we walked to Norstead). The room (Eric the Red) was fine and the patio door to the deck was a nice bonus. Breakfasts were prepared according to the multiple choice lists we completed each night and left in the kitchen. Food was very good, with coffee, tea and hot chocolate available at all times, along with cookies/crackers. Dinner was available for $16 per person, if requested before noon. We did not have dinner there, but others who did said it was excellent (salmon that night). The common room was very comfortable and we spent our last night there chatting with 10 other guests for several hours. We stayed 2 nights and would stay there again.

We chose this b and b because it is very close to the L'anse aux meadows national historical site. Upon arrival we were greeted and shown to our room - ours was called "Eric the Red". The host informed us about breakfast in the morning. She also informed us that the water was safe to drink but there was a water cooler available in the kitchen. She said the water had an odour (it sure did!!!) because they have sulfur in their water - reminded me of my uncle's farm and well water. The rooms were clean and comfortable and our room opened on to the large patio at the back with a spectacular view. There is also a washing machine and dryer available from 8:30am-10:00pm for visitor use. Breakfast was fantastic!!

What a great B&B! We chose this based on the other tripadvisor reviews and we definitely made the right choice. We opted for the moose dinner the night we checked in and it was delicious - and only $16 each! Big serving, tender moose meat (and lots of it) and homemade partridgeberry crumble for dessert.

Our room was clean and quiet, although pretty small. We had a room facing the ocean (patio doors onto a shared deck) and all the rooms have a private bathroom.

Breakfast in the morning was delicious and plentiful.

Thelma and Madge were awesome hosts!

Room Tip: Ask for ocean-view. Room one has an ocean view and is on the end, so might be quieter.

We only had one evening here, but were comfortable and very close to the main attraction: the original Viking settlement. Ragnar's room was a bit tight, but suitable for the two of us. The location so close to the sea allowed easy walks to the shore for beautiful views. Breakfast by Dot and Marge was very good.

This b&b is within a stone's throw of the L'anse Aux Meadows Heritage site. Half of the rooms look out over the water, the other half look out over the parking lot. (Ask for a water-view room when you book!)
The breakfast is small and doesn't offer a lot of choice- eggs, three types of meat, five or six types of cereal, tea, coffee, or juice. However, they offer dinner, which was great! Every night is a different menu. We were here for two nights:
#1: Cod/ Scallops / Something fishy (we didn't eat in for that night)
#2: Moose Roast + Roasted Potatoes. My husband loved the dinner.

For me (vegetarian), they made a huge plate of cooked veggies: broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, cabbage, turnip, potato, bread pudding, and this amazing pickled cabbage stuff. Very cosy meet and chat with the other guests dinner atmosphere.
The rooms are small, but comfortable. There is a nice guest living room and guest fridge.
Free tea/coffee/biscuits all day.

Overall, we were very happy with this bed and breakfast. Its exactly what you would expect at the edge of the province next to (reputed) Viking territory.

Room Tip: Ask for a water-view room! They have a porch and more privacy.

THE GOOD: location, breakfast, cost, clean and comfortable
THE BAD: thin walls and questionable quality construction

I stayed in room #6 while visiting the area. The room was clean and comfortable, but shares the outdoor terrace with the neighboring rooms. If you don't mind a bit of sulfur odor, you won't mind the shower and bathroom water.

Overall, if you're looking for an affordable place in a good location for exploring the L'Anse aux Meadows area, this is a great value. However, if you're a light sleeper and have the misfortune of having a snorer in the room next door, you won't get much sleep due to the very poor sound insulation.

We chose to stay at Viking Village due to its close proximity to water as well as the entrance to the park site, and we were not disappointed. The surroundings were atmospheric and relaxing. Our cabin was cozy, immaculate, and contained a very comfortable bed. Just outside our room were the living and dining room areas, spacious and attractive. There were always people to talk to and a large screen TV for one to view if so inclined. Things to look at included an array of locally knit goods for sale along with home-made jellies/jams, and a huge map of the world on the wall. Visitors from all over have inserted push-pins on the map to indicate their home country and it is simply amazing. We enjoyed the yummy breakfasts at Viking Village and talking to other guests. Definitely a great place to stay for visiting L’Anse Aux Meadows and nearby attractions. (The iceberg viewing boat which sails from nearby St. Anthony, and Norstead, a recreated Viking Village, were also well-worth experiencing.)
