“Just like home.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 23, 2012

I was travelling on my own and came to the Rothesay. I was immediately attracted to a fine building and its interior both of which had lots of charm. Host George met me at the door and I felt instantly at home. Everything was good about it. George took my baggage to my room and I settled in easily. I enjoyed the meals which Lynn cooked and spent time relaxing with my hosts. George was a mine of information about Newfoundland and gave me great help with my trip.
When the time came to leave I felt that I was leaving a home from home and a couple of good friends.

Room Tip: Dont hesitate to visit Rothesay House.

We've stayed in many great B&Bs over the years but Rothesay House beats them all! George and Lynn Butler have taken inn-keeping to another level. They greet you at the door, take your bags upstairs and make you comfortable right from the get go. Their historic house is expertly decorated but still comfortable and homey. Lynn is a gourmet cook; George is ever so gracious and entertaining as he waits on guests. Her homemade jams and bee-less honey are to die for; he is a wealth of information on the local history and travel. After breakfast, he sits down and discusses everyone's plans for not just that day but for the remainder of your trip and then gives tips and travel advice. Our trip to Newfoundland was great but our stay at Rothesay House was the best. Our fond memories will definitely take us back for more of their wonderful hospitality.

Doing a road trip around the Northern Avalon peninsula you have to stay with George and Lynn in Harbor Grace. The Rothesay House is a historic landmark home on the water, which we were lucky enough to get one of their last rooms. You will feel like you are visiting your favorite family, comfortable and well fed. The dinner we had was the best of our entire trip. George is very knowledgeable about the area and helped us plan the remainder of our trip. This is an experience you should not miss!

Arrived in Harbour Grace Newfoundland at about 5 pm, without a booking, looking en spec for a B & B. Extremely lucky to find one of the best places we have ever stayed. Beautiful, impeccably decorated, 150 year old house. Outstanding home cooked dinner and breakfast from extremely friendly, hospitable and interesting couple, Lynn and George Butler, who, with their dogs Maggie and O.Malley, welcomed us like members of their family. Definitely well worth planning to visit Harbour Grace just to stay with them. One of the very best of many travel experiences. We will definitely return.

If, like us, you are doing a road trip around the Avalon Penninsula, you could do no better than to choose Rothesay House for your B and B. We had pre-planned our trip and were there for just one night but would have gladly stayed longer. The house itself overlooks Harbour Grace bay and is one of several historic properties in the town. George and Lynn have decorated the house in a tasteful and attractive period style. But it is their warmth and welcoming approach (I'm including O'Malley the Newfoundland Dog!) which is their signature feature. I would also mention Lynn's fabulous meals. We hadn't originally intended to have dinner there, but we are so glad we did. We had a wonderful meal with great company (two other couples who were staying there). Breakfast was also beautifully prepared and presented. We were treated and felt like George and Lynn's personal guests.

Our Newfandland Finale
At the end of two weeks in Newfoundland this was a fitting finale! Upon arrival at this charming home George greeted us like cousins and settled us in. After unpacking, we sat on the front porch and got aquainted with their friendly dogs, O'Malley and Maggie. Shortly thereafter, we were invited to join the other delightful guests in the dining room for dinner. Not all B & B's offer dinner but it is certainly appreciated, especially when it is as scrumptious a local dish as Lynn prepared for us. Lynn is a top notch chef! George and Lynn joined the table conversation after dinner and regaled us with local history and tales.
Breakfast the following morning was equally as tasty and attractive as dinner had been. It was complete right to the fine details including her homemade jam and beeless honey.
A stay at the Rothesay Inn B & B is a must do for visitors to the Harbour Grace area. One of our favourites!

On a recent trip to NFLD, we were referred to Rothesay House by another B&B. We were absolutely thrilled by the warmth and hospitality of the proprietors as well as the beautiful and comfortable rooms. We had our meals at the house and were delighted with the quality and value of the offering. We would recommend this B&B to anyone touring this region.
