The owners are amazing! I didn't have a car, so George drove me all around the area for several hours to show me other towns and gorgeous scenery. Lynn's cooking is also incredibly gourmet, and I was treated like family and given a free dinner the first night I was there.
The decor is straight out of a magazine, because Lynn is a professional interior decorator. My bed was very comfortable and I slept like a baby.
Some other guests gave me a ride back to St. John's after my two-night stay, but Lynn would have driven me back if necessary. Wow!

John and I returned to Newfoundland to do more filming and photography around the Avalon Peninsula in June, and Rothesay House was the perfect B&B. George not only marked up our map every day with places to see and film, he also guided around such charming sites as Brigis village just to make sure we saw it from the best vantage points. His knowledge, and love, of the area - with its colourful history - was a bonus to our stay, and to our filming. He and Lynn were, indeed, the perfect hosts. We enjoyed our stay, the house, the garden, the splendid food, the scenery, and the company. For film makers, it was the perfect location!

My husband and I stayed at the Rothesay House during our honeymoon, and it was a highlight of our trip. The owners instantly made us feel comfortable and at home, the place was immaculately kept with beautiful decor, and the food (both breakfast AND dinner) was simply gourmet. I can't recommend the place - a home away from home.

Thanks for a perfect stay!

Beth and I recently returned to Newfoundland for our third visit and included a couple of days on the Baccalieu Trail. We came across the Rothesay House in a tour publication and researched it further on the web. What a great choice!! We felt welcome from the moment we arrived until the time we left. Their motto "Come as a guest, leave as a friend" is most appropriate.

George and Lynn are wonderful hosts. The Rothesay House is a Queen Anne style treasure that is beautifully appointed and landscaped. Our room was more than satisfactory and we especially enjoyed sitting on the front veranda. Lynn is an outstanding chef and George is the consummate server. Lynn makes her own breads, preserves and granola, has a flair for presentation and serves the freshest of fish. We opted to dine at the Rothesay House the first evening and upon enjoying the excellent meal, made reservations for the next night. We were very happy with our decision. Not only do Lynn and George offer an exceptional bed and breakfast experience but memorable dining too.

George knows everything there is to know about the Baccalieu Trail and is a most enthusiastic ambassador for Newfoundland. He answered all our questions and helped us organize our time on the peninsula so that we could see as much as possible.

We heartily thank Lynn and George for their warm hospitality--they are the kind of folks who make Newfoundland such a delightful destination and make us want to return again and again. We most assuredly recommend the Rothesay House to fellow travelers!!

Room Tip: You won't regret staying at Rothesay House for dinner.

The house, property & view of Harbour Grace is breath taking. George & Lynn make you feel like appreciated guests in their home, not patrons of a B&B. There is plenty of opportunity to socialize with the other guests which can be a very interesting experience because at any given time the place is full of people from around the world. We sat with people from Germany, Ireland and Ontario, Canada. However if you want to do your own thing your privacy is respected and there are plenty of places besides your room, inside and outside the manor to sit and enjoy the scenery or relax.

George & Lynn are amazing cooks as well. Breakfast was homemade granola cereal, fruit & a mushroom & goat cheese omelet, served with homemade whole wheat bread with homemade jams & honey. Dinner is usually some sort of fresh fish. We chose to eat elsewhere but we heard the salmon was amazing. We will definitely be eating dinner there next time.

Harbour Grace itself is an amazing place to visit as well. It is very scenic and has a interesting history. The famous Newfoundland Peter Easton had his fort there and you can visit a museum on the grounds where the fort stood. Amelia Earhart launched her transatlantic flight from there and you can go visit the airstrip where she took off. Harbour Grace also has a lot of churches you can visit, the oldest stone church in Newfoundland, St. Paul's, being one of them. The town was one of the most central spots to newfoundland commerce, industry and fishery in the 1800's and there is plenty of things around to see that are evidence of that.

On the south side of Harbour Grace there is a public pasture where there are local livestock as well as natural wildlife. You can hike out and can even see an iceberg or some whales if the time of the year is right. If that is not enough to do, George & Lynn are very versed in other local attractions.

So what I am saying is, if you are looking for a place to visit in Newfoundland whether you are from here or not, you would be absolutely foolish not to go to the Rothesay!

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent. Your own bathroom too which is not found in all B&B's. Rose of Torr...

We have to agree with the other reviewers--the food is excellent, the house is homey and comfortable, and the hosts are great. George's advice was right on every time and made for two great days

Room Tip: Bathrooms are furnished with tubs plus flexible hose nozzle in some but not all rooms.

On day 2 of our Newfoundland honeymoon, Hurricane Igor (Sept 2010) threw a wrench into our travel plans and landed us in the little town of Harbour Grace at the Rothesay House. Without notice, or hydro for that matter, George and Lynn welcomed us into their home, and made sure that we felt like family- not guests, offering to cook for us on the fire. Lynn is an exceptional chef, from peasoup by candlelight to her fabulous breakfasts of homemade honey and jams, we were overwhelmed by her care and attention to every detail. George is extremely knowledgeable, and ensured that we missed nothing on our day trips to and from the Rothesay house. We later found out that they had accomdated us on a weekend that they had planned to be closed to celebrate their anniversary. These two are truly an amazing pair, and we really can't thank them enough. We would highly recommend this beautiful B&B to anyone visiting Newfoundland, and look forward to visiting again someday.
