“Good base for exploring southern Labrador”
Reviewed July 3, 2013

We spent two nights here in June and we stayed in a one-bedroom suite. The decor is outdated and the bed was a bit uncomfortable, but the rooms were very clean and certainly had everything we needed for our stay. There was a full sized fridge as well as a stove-top, small oven and mini-fridge in the kitchen. There were also all the utensils necessary to make your own meals. The location was great, and had beautiful views of the ocean. We could see spectacular sunsets from our window as well as icebergs in the harbour. It was a convenient spot for driving to Red Bay and Point Amour, as well as the Ferry at Blanc Sablon. We had dinner one night at the restaurant - the food was quite good, very much like a home-cooked meal. My husband really enjoyed his roast beef sandwich and poutine! The ladies working in the restaurant were very friendly. It was also convenient that they had a small grocery store attached to the restaurant for picking up some basics.

2 bedroom "cabin" on the Trans-Labrador highway, a short drive from the Blanc-Sablon ferry.

Basic accommodations but with everything you need. Comfortable beds, small kitchen / living / dining area, full bath.

Spotlessly clean and a great value.

The restaurant is excellent as well.

Nice location in southern Labrador, away from the "tourist mecca" of L'Anse au Clair. Our cabin had a microwave, coffee maker, toaster, stove, and full size refrigerator, along with cable TV. They have "grocery" store on site (and there are similar stores in L'Anse au Clair and a slightly larger one in L'Anse au Loup). Internet WiFi signal was of variable strength/quality. Rooms were clean; not large, but sufficient. Modest sized combined living room and dining room. Laundry facilities available for free. Restaurant on-site is clearly frequented by the locals. Food was tasty, reasonable quantities (although the mashed potatoes tasted pre-fabricated). The staff in the restaurant were gracious and very hospitable, as was the manager. Booked a fishing package with them. The guide knew all the good fishing holes and was incredibly friendly. The restaurant staff gladly cooked the fish that we caught and served it to us for supper. Highly recommend the Seaview; would definitely stay here if we return to Labrador Straits.

We stayed here last summer on our way back from our vacation. It was a great stay - wireless internet worked well but though there is no cell service in Forteau. We checked in at the restaurant and got food from there - small portions and not spectacular but it was okay. The cabin itself was great. Living room/kitchen, two bedrooms, and a bathroom. TV that swung out of the way (cool!). We were traveling with a 1 year old and a 4 year old and they loved the place. Lots of parking. Outdoor bbq but we didn't use that as we were just there overnight. Basket of soaps, shampoos, etc. left there for us which was a nice touch. They also had drawers built into the wall which was awesome. I'd love that feature in our spare room. :) Planning to stay here again en route to the ferry to Newfoundland this summer. :)

Room Tip: We were in one of the older two-bedroom cabins and it was lovely. I've read the 1-bedroom units...

Our recent stay at Seaview was a really fun and interesting experience for my wife and me. We booked a salmon fishing package and stayed for the entire week to also do some exploring along the southeast coast of the "Big Land." It's a fascinating and wonderful place to see!

The cottage, food and staff are all great - in addition, our salmon guide Milton and his wife who fished and accompanied us too, made us feel more like we were spending time with our crazy country cousins than meeting new folks for the first time! We had a great "boil up" at noon on the Pinware River during a break from fishing - what a hoot thanks to Loretta's fresh jam, homemade bread and what else but a fresh trout and some cod cooked over an open fire. And of course, tea brewed from Pinware River water - yes, it's that clean!!

I threatened not to write this for general manager Brad Hancock, because we wanted to keep it to ourselves...but why not share our good fortune with others!? If you like a first hand experience which puts you at the top of the learning curve about Labrador, stay with these folks for a bit!

Tight lines! Nick and Tracey

We stayed here for 2 days and nights and it was great. The "rooms" are beautiful, clean, quiet and have all that you need for a great stay. Right on the water. The ferry to "the Rock" was cancelled so we stayed another day. Great time, good food and GREAT staff. One of the best stays we had in a month of travel. Hello to Clarissa and Joyce.

Just returned from a three-night stay here. This was our second visit to the Seaview. First, it should be noted that "Cabins" is certainly a misnomer. None of the rustic atmosphere we expected on our first visit. These are four modern one-bedroom efficiency apartments, which are spotlessly clean and very nicely furnished. All of the rooms are large, especially the bathroom which has a whirlpoool tub. The building also has laundry facilities. Everything is provided except food.

There are also four two-bedroom units in a seperate building..

The Seaview Restaurant, which is where you register for your apartment, serves excellent meals, especially seafood, at low prices. Their seafood chowder is the finest I've tasted in over 40 years of travel.

The owners of the Seaview also operate "Labrador Preserves", which you will find on sale throughout the Province. They are available in the restaurant at discount prices.

I can't think of a nicer place to stay when visiting the Labrador Straites Area.
