“Beauty in a Butterfly”
Reviewed October 23, 2013

Seeing these butterflies & having them land on your body was quite the experience, the colours are phenomenal. The expressions on children's faces were something to behold. I enjoyed every minute of it. The gift shop had some nice keepsakes to purchase geared toward all ages. The staff was very friendly.

“Fun with Bugs? Really!!”
Reviewed September 24, 2013

If in the Deer Lake area a visit to the Insectarium is a must. The well displayed collection of glass protected insect samples from around the world is amazing. Of note is also the working bee hive display, the ant farm and butterfly pavilion.
A small shop on site sells some souvenirs and refreshments. Limited picnic table seating outdoors gives you a place to sit and enjoy a snack. The price of admission is reasonable.

“A Fun Place with an Enthusiastic Proprietor”
Reviewed September 21, 2013

Loved it! The proprietor is very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the animals here, so his intro talk was fascinating. There are not only insects but also spiders (including a number of tarantulas), scorpions, and a toad. There's a hatching room, where you can watch through a window as butterflies emerge from their chrysalises, and the (very hot and humid!) butterfly garden is a definite highlight. (Be sure to keep your camera lens clear if you want to take photos in the butterfly garden; I didn't notice that my lens had fogged up so none of my butterfly pictures turned out!) If you're going to be in Deer Lake, there is really no reason NOT to visit this place!!!

“Butterfly Heaven”
Reviewed September 19, 2013

I have always been a butterfly fan, my Florida home is decorated with a butterfly motif. So it was a pleasure to be able to walk among so many exotic creatures. The building is very well arranged, people with children seemed to really enjoy it. Interesting to see the many varieties of insects on display, even the live ones, tarantulas and all!

A superb display in a beautiful historic building. The insectarium is the lifetime's work of the charming owners who welcome guest and run the shop. Amazing display of preserved and live insects, the walk in butterfly area was a beautiful experience. Check the live Tarantulas!
