We never knew the significance of Middle Island. It is quite significant in Irish History. You can walk all around the island, lots of benches for resting; museum, gift shop and resteraunt on site; as well as places for picnicking.

Enjoyed a quite morning at the beach with our toddler. Found a sandy spot to sit and play and spent some time in the river too. Beautiful spot for a picnic at one of the many tables.

I grew up on the Miramichi and Middle Island was always a nice place to go in summer but for a long time it was just a beach with lots of parking and a couple of picnic tables under some trees. Then whatever "powers that be" decided to develop the spot as a memorial park for the Irish immigrants who came to the Miramichi, many of whom died and are buried on the island. It's nice to see how the park has been developed as a fitting memorial without it being an overboard, cheesy attraction. The informative, tasteful information signs around the site tell the story well. The facilities are clean and modern. The beach is small but pleasant. All in all, it's a nice place for a family to spend some time.

Upon arriving on this little island, which is off the main road, and accessible by car, you can't help but feel like you have just stepped into something from the past. It's an impressive island which is small but has a big history. It tells the story of how Irish immigrants set out for a better life in Canada and while on their voyage here, a lot of them got sick on the vessel and they had to stop on this island to not spread the disease they had to the mainland. These people suffered and a lot of them died. It's a special place where you might even see names of some of your ancestors. Very informative.
