“Great place for a quick bite.”
Reviewed February 23, 2014

Liz and her staff make you feel at home. Comfortable space. Great view. Homemade pastries. Surprisingly large selection of hot beverages. And great conversation, especially if you stop by when it's not busy, which is less frequent as people fine this place. It's nice to see this business become so successful in so short a time.

“Best coffee in North Head”
Reviewed September 2, 2013

This is the place for caffeine crazies like both of us. A good selection of hot and iced coffee drinks. The espresso is tasty, with a good bite (small portions - order a triple if you want more than a small cup). The pastries are fine, and there's a (very) small daily selection of soup/chili/other food. They stay open late, and open early. A fine complement to the larger pastry selection at North Head Bakery about five minutes by car south on the "main road." The café has WiFi, but it can be spotty. But there's no one holding a watch on you, and the crafts and photographs in the shop are worth a look, so what's your hurry?

“Cute place to hang out, but slim pickings”
Reviewed August 29, 2013

To be fair, we did not try the coffee or pastries, the two things that people seem to like about this place. It is adorable inside and very cozy, and seems like a nice place to spend a rainy afternoon. However, if you are hungry for lunch or breakfast and don't feel like pastries that don't look as good as those at North Head Bakery, you're out of luck. The chowder is pretty good. People have mentioned sandwiches, but we have been inside several times (twice walked away without getting anything, as nothing appealed to us) and they have always run out. Also, there are no vegetarian options for anything besides pastries. The iced tea was way too sweet and tasted like Nestea. I really want to like this place, and will probably drop by to give it another try, but have yet to have one positive experience.

“Unfriendly service and expensive desserts”
Reviewed August 28, 2013

I had read the positive reviews, but we were disappointed when we went there ourselves. The lady behind the counter looked grumpy and angry. We bought a piece of carrot cake ($4.75), and she picked a small corner piece. My husband asked if he could get a non-corner piece and she handed him the tongs and said "why don't you just pick the piece you want", with a very put-out attitude. My son dropped his glass of water and went to get paper towels to clean it up. I would say that's quite good for a 7-year-old! But another woman came (just as grumpy) and mopped it up. When my son said Thank you, she just ignored him and walked away. The desserts were very good, but I thought they were a bit on the pricey side. The coffee was OK, but we opted to buy a pack of Starbucks from the store and grind our own. It tasted much better and we didn't have to put up with the rude service! We didn't go back after this experience.
