We had already booked at this guest house but had not yet stayed there by the time we read the previous review on the accommodation so it was with some anxiety that we arrived at Le Pignon Rouge.
We were greeted by the owner who proved to be a very affable Acadian gentleman (of the old school). He gave us rooms on the first floor which were clean and comfortable if a little quirky but this is what you expect when effectively staying in someone's own house. In our case the air-conditioning was all working (it was quite hot weather during our stay) and appeared modern and efficient.
During our stay the owner was curteous and kind; altogether a very interesting person who enjoyed a chat about Acadian culture and how this fits with the rest of Canada and the world in general.
As per the previous review, the owner did commence his preparation of breakfast last thing at night but this did not bother us - it's his house after all! His reasons for doing so were revealed the next morning as he served up his spectacular pancakes where the batter mix clearly benefits from 'resting' overnight. The owner also made many efforts to handle the dietary requirements of our eldest son who is allergic to all dairy products.
We have no complaints whatsoever and indeed only happy memories of our stay at Le Pignon Rouge - admittedly we didn't have the room off the kitchen as per the previous reviewer but while we were there another couple did occupy this without (at least to our ears) any particular objection.
Provided you're up for some interesting conversation with a charming Acadian gentleman and are prepared to overlook quirkiness in the self-built accommodation (eg. ensuite bathroom doesn't have a door separating bathroom/bedroom) which certainly was not a problem for us, this property will introduce you to French Acadian hospitality in a truly positive way.
