The staff at the Acadian Village were amazing, and made our one day with them memorable. From the fine gentleman who chauffered us around in the Model T, to the ladies who catered to us in the hotel Chateau Albert to the fantastic interpreters in the village itself who spoke to us in both English and French. Honestly, do NOT miss this place, our 10 year old enjoyed it as much as we did! One BIG tip: take along some Off if you are visiting in the summer - we got bitten ALot!

We spent almost a whole day here and could easily have returned for more if our schedule would have allowed. Your ticket Is good for two days which is a neat idea. Some people have complained the the actors spoke too much French, but we found they were only too willing to explain in English if asked. It is possible to stay at the recreated Hotel on site and we wished we would have done that. They do a music dinner package which sounded really fun. That would have completed the whole Acadian experience.

The Acadian village is a collection of historic Acadian buildings (farms, homes, businesses) in a parklike setting. It is a must-see if you are in the area and it would be a shame to spend any less than four hours. What makes this village particularly interesting is the people. All buildings are 'inhabited' by people in period dress that do a great job of explaining who they are, what they do and what life was like. They also demonstrate how to make thread from wool or flax, and then turn that into cloth or rope. There are demonstrations of printing and a functioning sawmill, as well as period-style restaurants. The people bring the village to life, and together their stories offer a kaleidoscope of Acadian life and history. It really helps if you understand French, as that is the primary language used.

For kids in the primary school age group there is a great all-day program in which they are dressed up in period clothes and visit various locations in the village, have lunch and practice some chores and crafts. The kids seemed to love it, and for other visitors the kids bring even more life to the village.

There is also a 20th century section to the village, which we found less interesting, but which also contains a hotel. We were staying in a motel in nearby Caraquet, but next time would definitely consider staying in the on-site hotel as part of the charm of the place.

The weather was very nice when we have been here on Saturday. We went as a couple with no children. The Site Interpreters we could talk to all spoke english, but many of them were caught up in french speaking people.
As usual, all the houses are interesting. But maybe because we have been at Kings Landing for so many times the older parts of the village were very familiar. The most intersting part to us was the 20th Century section. We also could catch them preparing the bread to be baked in the outside oven as well as taking it out later. It was delicious to try!
Yes, if you are in the area, take a look inside!
