“Incredible location on the Bay of Fundy”
Reviewed July 18, 2008

This was one of our most positive surprises during a driving trip through the Maritime Provinces. With limited choices in the area of the Hopewell Rocks, I found the Parkland Village Inn on the Internet and assumed it would be a tired small town motel, but I found it to be quite the contrary. The room was clean and modern. The restaurant was excellent - better than one would expect in a small village like Alma. The staff was helpful and friendly. Our third floor room had a perfect view of the bay, and we were fascinated watching the lobster boats return into the harbor through a channel which had been only a small ditch just hours earlier. If you are traveling to Hopewell Rocks, you will find that a stay at the Parkland gives you an enhanced experience of the Bay of Fundy.

Room was noisy till after midnight. The owner was very rude when we requested to use his picnic tables overlooking the wharf.

For the money, there are more hospitable places to stay in the Alma area.

We stayed at Parkland Village Inn on 8/28. The hotel is in good condition. I wouldn't rate it as a 5 star accomadation but my family did not have any problems with our suite. The view from our bedroom window was great. We were amazed at the difference between low and high tides. Hopewell Rocks was only a 30 minute drive away. The restaurant for dinner was excellant. Their continential breakfast was ok. We would stay there again.

My husband and I stayed here for one night in July with our young baby. The room size was good as they gave us a disabled room so we could fit in the travel cot but the stairs to upper rooms were right behind our bedrom wall! so it was a bit noisy. We had dinner there which was really good but we did feel a bit like we were a nuisance with the stroller - the guy runig the show made us move so we weren't 'in the way' of the servers even though his staff had sat us there! Breakfast was wonderful though and the staff on that shift went out of their way to help us! Overall a pretty basic place with decent food.

I think that the 8/31/05 review represents an anomaly. We stayed here for two nights in a king-bedded bayview room. The room was very spacious, clean, and adequately-appointed. Since it was in the new part of the inn, there was no wi-fi access due to all the shielding by the metal framework of the building addition, but I was welcomed to access their network in the dining room area of the inn. The front desk personnel were very personable and accommodating. From the large window of our room, it was interesting watching the fishing boats winding their way into and out of the adjacent harbor during high tide. "The Tides" restaurant was very nice and meals were reasonably priced. Their scallops, lightly breaded or over linguine, were favorites of mine!

We spent two nights at the Parkland Village Hotel in Alma. We used this hotel as a base while we explored the nearby Fundy National Park. The first night we had a king size room with a view of the bay $110 and the second night we were in a street side queen room for $80. The hotel is clean, the inkeepers were very friendly and nice, and the rates were reasonable. Our streetside room was a little noisy with cars and people walking on the attached balcony / walkway, but overall we were pleased with our stay. We enjoyed dinner in the hotel one night. Breakfast (included in the price) is nothing special, cold cereal and fruit.

We had a wonderful time at the Parklands Village Inn. The staff (all family members) could not have been more friendly and welcoming, and the rooms were all very spacious, clean and quiet (we had a look at a few different ones as it was low season so they offered to show us around). The bar downstairs serves great beer and offers a relaxed, cosy atmosphere for a drink and a chat. The Tides restaurant (in the hotel) is fantastic! We ate there every night and enjoyed the extremely well priced specials, which consist of three courses, the main usually including the phenomenal local specialities of Bay of Fundy lobster or scallops. The hotel is handily located right by the gates to Fundy National Park and is also a driveable distance to the bigger town of Saint John, and the staff are extremely helpful in suggesting things to see and do and providing information. Parking is right outside and free. We would definitely stay here again and will absolutely recommend it to friends!
