Was recommended by a friend and we stopped by on our way up island one night. Garden setting is beautiful but once it is dark, one candle per table isn't enough.
APPYS: sliders were enjoyed, calamari was like rubber bands but the sauce was good.
ENTREES: chicken chow mein was average and not finished. West coast seafood platter..... Now the menu made it sound delicious and I am a seafood lover. None of this platter was appetizing although it wasn't bad it was boring and sooo not worth thy $28. One 4" piece if dried out snow crab, one overcooked and dried piece if tuna, 3 cold mussels, 3 cold steamed oysters and 2 prawns. Side dish of melted butter and really gummy overly sweet and citrussy risotto. If this was a "chilled" seafood platter it might have lived up to billing but it did not. There was no seasoning on anything and the mussels were billed as steamers. The steamers on the menu were with a coconut curry broth so I thought that's what I would get. Nope. Just cold plain mussels.
DESSERT: meh. Creme brule was liquidy under the crust. Not set.

Overall.....not going back and not recommending it.

Nice setting and the service was fine. The food however, did not meet expectations. The octopus appetizer tasted fine but was way too chewy. As for the mains, the duck special was delicious, the ginger beef terrible - like leather shoe laces dipped in ginger ale and cooked for about 3 hours - and the portabello mushrooms with risotto just average. All the mains were accompanied by a rather cloying fruit flavoured risotto - it would have been better in more restrained dosage levels. All in all a bit of a disappointment.

We were glad we had made reservations as we arrived on a very busy saturday night, there had been a car accident on the Malahat and people were staying to eat in town before trying to get home. We ended up at a nice table at the back with cool breezes and later they turned on the heaters afater the sun went down.. Service was slow due to the large crowd but they tried very hard. all the staff worked together helping each other out. An offer of a drink when we were seated would have been appreciated and we had to ask for one and again when my hubby's beer was dry ! . Our meals were worth the wait . we started with a mixed green salad and the dressing was fabulous. candies pecans !! I had the baked baby lobster mac and cheese, yummy with 4 different cheeses . My hubby enjoyed his entre as well. sorry drawing a blank at the moment of what it was. chicken ?
They did give us a discount on dessert as it took longer than usual as well but again worth the wait ( Belgian choc lava cake) very nicely presented abd decadently yummy..

We will go back and hopefully they won't be full to the rafters.

This was my first visit to Steeples. It had been highly recommended by several people to me, and when we found ourselves in the area, We thought we would give it a try. We ordered the Prawns Eggs Benedict and the Bacon Eggs Benedict. The portions were big, there was lots creativity put into making the Bennies different than any other restaurant, the atmosphere was warm and cozy, and the wait staff was attentive and friendly, keeping our coffees hot and fresh. This is my new "favorite" restaurant. it's worth the drive, and I will be back! Thank you!!

After a few inconsistant brunches we decided to give it one last try as brunch in the Cowichan Valley is hard to find . We both had the bacon eggs benny . Standard deep fried hash so as deep fried potatoes hard to screw up they were fair as that also means nothing special . Steeples USED to seem to try and source a lot more locally but it is obvious they are using maybe medium size generic eggs-one of mine was broken with the obvious hard congeiled yellow pocking out the end (chef didnt even TRY to hide it)
For some reason they out the bacon on the side (are you supposed to lift up poached eggs and H sauce to jam it under there or take a bite of each?? Bacon was fatty flacid and undercooked and when I asked the waitress to get it cooked more she brought it back still undercooked with Char marks here and there that tasted burnt . If you leave half of the 3 pcs of bacon you recieve THATS bad . Fresh fruit listed as part of your breaky would be what moste call THE GARNISH 1 triangle of watermelon and 2 old pc pineapple does not count as a side people . Oh yeah 1/2 tiny croissant is the base of the benny -hard to eat a benny and leave hungy but not here-we ate muffins after .
The waitress could tell we didn't like our breaky so she chose not to ask us how it was at all so they get to hear about it here instead . Last chance to impress was blown guys-and we gave you a few!!
