We decided to spend a week on Vancouver Island after two weeks in Alaska. This was the hi point of the trip. The resort is in a rebuilding phase with the on site gym and telephone service not open. Off site office area offered use of phone there at anytime. They also have an agreement with a local gym for use. I really think that this is a short range problem which will soon be fixed. The staff was friendly and went out of there way to assure everything was right. The location is amazing. Within two hours of Victoria waterfront but why go that far. There are 5 provincial parks within a half hour offering everything from rainforest to beaches. There are also a dozen small but exqusite attractions. Easy to get to and in the center of a ton of great restaurants and little shops. The locals were great. Going out of there way to make you feel at home. We not only are planning out next trip back but are even wishing we could figure out a way to move there. Onsite are several grill areas with first class bbq's, one overlooking the bay. Truly amazing. I have been retired 7 years and spend 20 weeks a year traveling and this is the best place we have been.

Room Tip: upper floor rooms have an ocean view

This resort is great. The amenities are perfect for couples. We stayed in #222 A&B, which was just gorgeous! The decor tasteful and simple. There were plenty of towels, and kitchen essentials. One real issue, there was no air conditioning. We would have used it on our first night here if we had it. There are fans in the bedroom and living rooms so we managed. The weather changed luckily to a bit chilly so we slept well with just a fan on. The TV in the bedroom had limited channel access so we used the living room one when we wanted to catch up on mindless watching. The second future deal breaker for me - the beds were rock hard and very uncomfortable. The linens were hard and noisy! The jet tubs didn't work. The views were amazing. There were lots of windows to enjoy the views of the bay. Internet access is spotty at best. Parking could be more convenient since I had a hurt foot, it really was annoying that the car was so far away. We would recommend staying here when the temperatures are below 12c. The location was ideal for reaching the tours that we wanted join. All in all we would stay again if the beds were softer.

Great resort with fantastic amenities. The building was dated but as soon as I walked into the suite it was well renovated. Maintenance and cleanliness was an issue. I found the bathroom to be less than clean and the drains were slow. The view was fantastic and the pool area was great for my son. They have a hot tub out at the point which was a cool feature. No beach out front but still very calm and picturesque area. Not too sure if I'll return. There are so many choices and options in that area and tee price I paid was above average.

We stayed here with another couple for seven nights as part of the RCI timeshare group. As other reviewers have pointed out there are some real management problems here. We were not allowed to use the indoor pool, gym and outdoor spa. Compared to previous stays the facility was in need of basic maintenance. The worst was the smell of rotting garbage by the store which is the area where the restaurant disposes its waste.
Our room was in the 300 block building on the third floor. We had a view of the bay from our balcony. Our room was small but adequate. There was a table and chairs outside the patio doors which was nice to sit out in morning and the evening. The gardens are well maintained. There are some benches overlooking the bay where it is nice to sit and watch the sun set. The hot tub on the deck at the edge of resort is enclosed and you needed the entry code to use it. There were several gas grills around the grounds which are there to use if you wish but some did not work. We spent most of our time out sightseeing which was the part that made up for the problems with this place. We did have a microwave, toaster, coffeemaker and minimum kitchen equipment The Wi-Fi worked well. The room also had TV and DVD player. The room was basically clean... I think we would choose another place to stay if I had to pay full price for what we had.

We stayed here for seven nights as part of the timeshare group. Our room was in the hotel building on the second floor. We had a view of the restaurant deck and main building from our balcony. Our room was small but adequate. We spent most of our time out sightseeing. We did have a microwave, toaster, coffeemaker and a minimum kitchen equipment. The room could have used some kind of a small table. There were only end tables. Wi-fi worked well. Also had TV and dvd player. The room was basically clean. The refrigerator badly needed defrosting. It was a little warm and stuffy but there were two large fans provided. We had one meal in the restaurant, but this was not a good experience, so even though the food was good we would not go back. I think i would chose another place to stay if I had to pay full price for what we had.

Because of the management issues, it's can you or can't you use such and such. My wife and I stayed in the 700 block via RCI, Room 725A. No view of water, but lots of vegetation. Perhaps a little claustrophobic. Remarks are correct, even when not hot outside, the rooms stay incredibly warm. Fans are a must.
Screen doors are always open for ventilation purposes. Room was well appointed, but simulated living in a hallway as it was very narrow and too much furniture. Yes, we could hear people from other units...next door or above or below..uncertain!
Grounds were very nice. Craig Bay is so calm and clear. Wonderful location. Off site check in was a breeze. Didn't eat at the on-site restaurant (but even as timeshare, we could eat there, can't swim or gym or spa)
Hot tub at the point (24 hrs) we could use. The whole management thing was bizarre!
Great location and looks like room for expansion once management is resolved

Room Tip: 725A has lovely shrubbery views, but nothing else. It does seem somewhat claustrophobic since you se...

If you've made it to this review, then you've probably already read about all of the ownership difficulties at Pacific Shores, so I won't go into detail. Suffice to say, you have to be certain you're booking with the resort itself (you'll be in the 200 block if you book with the resort) and not the timeshare group. If you book with the timeshare prepare to have no access to the amenities unless you pay a lot extra, and no housekeeping services at all! You'll also have to check in in town.

We booked with the resort and got a decent price for two connecting suites - one with kitchen and one with a bedroom and sitting area. The outside of the property is showing its age, but inside is decent, though the furniture could use a good cleaning and there were lots of dents, etc. on the wooden tables, chairs. The kitchen was well-stocked and the fridge, stove, and microwave were clean.

We had a view of the Bay that was lovely and our second suite was an end unit (236/237) and that's about where the loveliness ends.

The first thing we noticed was the noise from adjacent suites, above, and next door to 236. You can actually hear conversations when the doors are open - and there's no AC so you have to keep the doors and windows open at all times. All four nights featured someone yelling outside after midnight. After 10pm there's no service at the front desk, so no way to do anything about this at the time.

The next thing that was clear was the minimal number of staff on site. We had no housekeeping service (less than 7 day stays the rooms are supposed to be made up), there were no pool towels, and no one at the sad looking kayaks that you're in theory able to use (presume you have to bring your own life jackets??). The BBQ area was 'reserved for functions'. The lobby is like a ghost town most of the time. The mineral pools are nice, but tiny and crowded despite only hotel guests having access to them in theory.

In the end we asked for and received a small refund for the inconveniences, but I still wouldn't go back to Pacific Shores until the management situation is resolved and the property has been substantially refurbished. At this point, it's certainly not a resort destination.

Room Tip: If you're not in the 200 block then you're renting a timeshare so expect to have no amenitie...
