My parents, husband and I stayed at the Pacific Shores Resort & Spa for just about a week. We stayed in a 2br/2bath condo using our RCI points. We were not disappointed. We had plenty of space and comfortable rooms. Our unit enjoyed two decks - one small one off the kitchen and another larger space right off the living room area (the master bedroom also had a door to this particular deck) and our views were of Craig Bay. It was nicely appointed with casual yet somewhat generic decor, and had a fully usable kitchen with the tools you'd need to prepare meals while on vacation.
The grounds were beautiful! A nice walking path that ran along the water's edge lined the property along with beautiful flower beds and chairs/benches for sitting to enjoy the views. Several hot tubs and several places to enjoy the different views were sprinkled around the property. We even found an herb garden that we used when preparing our dinners each night.
While we did not eat in the restaurant, it was beautiful with several aquariums, expansive views and a fireplace.
Overall, we were very happy with our choice in staying at the Pacific Shores Resort & Spa. It met our needs and provided us a great base for exploring the island. It was comfortable and relaxing. We even saw sea otters playing during one walk at sunset and (in the far distance) spotted an orca eye-spy.
Finally, it was a nice location. Close to Parksville for conveniences like grocery stores, ATMs, gas stations and it was easy to pick up the highway. Yet, we still felt we were in a remote location for quiet and relaxation. It was pretty easy to get to Port Alberni to the west, north to Campbell River area and was a simple drive to Nanaimo. We came in on an evening ferry via Victoria (departing from Port Angeles in the US) and that drive was a little long, mostly because it was dark. But, it was definitely doable.
A special note: Vancouver Island is LARGE, so the one thing I'd strongly suggest when deciding where to book is to figure out some of what you want to see and things you want to do. Pacific Shores Resort & Spa was a great location for the activities we planned, but it wouldn't be suitable (in my opinion) for day trips to the Pacific Ocean/West Coast of the island or to Victoria.
