I stayed 2 nights in a balcony room that faced south with a beautiful view of the mountains. The room was just fine with 2 large comfy beds and a lovely heat lamp in the bathroom. It was surprisingly quiet at night in spite of the fact that there were a lot of cars in the parking lot and that it was a Friday hockey playoff night. The main road was pretty quiet then too. All staff were excellent and helped get information for me that I had requested. Breakfast was great, and I never had to line up to get in. Location very convenient for hospital, airport, ferry, etc. and there's a shuttle bus to Mt. Washington. I highly recommend staying at this hotel.

Room Tip: Research the rooms carefully on their website.

My humble observations over a six week stay in the 200 block (an older building) at Port Augusta Inn & Suites.

First, the good:
1) The continental breakfast is decent, and available to take out.
2) The Managers are friendly and helpful.
3) Fairly close to Comox amenities.
4) Two minutes from guaranteed sightings of 10+ Bald Eagles.
5) Five minutes from Courtenay.
6) There's a bar.
7) There's high-speed internet.

Now, the not-so-good:
1) Room service quality is inconsistent.
..a) Don't count on a thorough vacuum job. A tell-tale left on the carpet remains for days, sometimes a week.
..b) Most towels are stained and rough. On the rare occasion that a soft one is scored, it will be replaced if left hanging on the towel bar.
..c) The well-aged gunge on light switches and other such small surfaces is disgusting. (See pics.)
..d) Clean the cookware well before use. (See pic.)
2) Questionable electrical work. (See pic.)
3) Poor quality finish work. (See pic.)
4) There's a bar. Since the popular bar down the road burned down, this one's activity has increased markedly -- along with the noisy drunken activity in the parking lot.
5) I can push a ballpoint pen through the gap under my door to the outside world. The door sweep is non existent, so light, cold, noise, and cigarette smoke seep in at will. (See pic.)
6) There's high-speed internet (*cough*). The internet may be high-speed when it gets to the hotel router, but by the time it hits your computer, it's 35 - 40 kb/s. Video-chat with your toddler who's half a country away? Forget it.

Conclusion: I won't stay here again.

The room was everything I expected and the location is central but the managers are a cut above. They really go out of their way to make sure the time there is enjoyable!

If you are seeking accommodation in Comox, BC, then look no further than the Port Augusta Inn and Suites! The rooms and suites have and are being upgraded to a very fine quality, enhanced by the service offered by the Managers, Walter and Debbie Rushworth, who welcomed me in November. I plan on returning in December and highly recommend the Inn to people visiting Comox or Courtenay (the Comox Valley), whether it be for business or pleasure.

We stayed over a weekend in August. Our room was decorated in 80's tired decor. One bed was new and comfortable, but the other bed was very old and was terrible, squeaky and very saggy in the middle. The worst was the carpet. I don't think it has ever been replaced and was filthy. It was vacuumed, but years of dirt was so embedded in it was horrible. The our socks were black in under 10 minutes of walking on the floor (really only 10 minutes!!). Really gross! The breakfast was ok, they proudly list all the items they serve everywhere, but at the breakfast they did not serve them all. Also the breakfast room is so tiny (4 small tables!!) and they have lots of hotel rooms (I'd guess around 150), so people were lined up trying to fit in the room and then no place to sit. People were out sitting in the flower beds outside they were so desperate! The outside of the hotel has been updated and looks nice, too bad the rooms were not. The staff were friendly and we really liked the pool. We won't stay again due to the dirty room.

We were quite happy with the room we had. The decor was a little tired but everything was clean and comfortable. The pillows left a little to be desired unless you like thin ones. Breakfast was good, pool was good for the kids, good location. Street is a bit noisy but I imagine if you get one of the rooms off the street, it wouldn't be bad.
